The Houthi rebels are currently taking on a coalition including the US and the UK.  If that conflict actually took off, rather than simply trying to stop the Houthi's attacking shipping, they could be wiped out in a matter of days - yet they continue.  People or countries don't always do the rational thing and Putin is far from rational.

I wouldn't fault older people for being more pessimistic, might have something to do with acquired life experience rather than projecting one's mortality onto the world.

 

What I would fault older people for is putting their head in the sand about climate change because they figure they won't be around very much longer and have to deal with the consequences.

Serious answer: A nuclear holocaust is a zero sum game for everyone. So it's the least of anything I ever worry about. No winners, only losers. Nobody gets out of here alive. So wherever you live, the best case scenario is that (if it ever comes to WW3) the bombs start to fall on you first, then you don't have to witness any of the horrific suffering to come. In the meantime; eat good food, enjoy a fat spliff, shag like there is no tomorrow, be kind to everyone, and be thankful for what you've got.

Putin isn't mad or stupid. He's a lot smarter than Biden. He has new trade deals and some powerful friends.

Additionally, I have no fear of living in Thailand because I don't.  I am likely to this year though and I'm currently considering whether or not that is wise.

Thailand is safer than the UK. If Putin was mad as you say he's far more likely to nuke the UK than Thailand. He is friends with Thailand.

To be honest, having property and other assets in Thailand, I'm more concerned about being deported or having to leave in a hurry therefore potentially losing everything.

I see what's done locally that influence climate, and if you ride a motorbike in an old tropical forrest, you feel the temperature drop right? The rivers is all full of sand and mud, because of deforestation, and so on, and you telling me industrialisation doesn't affect climate? 

 

I do not deny climate changes in past, the planet have always been burning, volcano eruptions, asteroids impacts and so on, but now our abuse of the planet together with other natural causes and cycles, so we just FU much faster for our selves. Fine for me you do not believe, and I'm still enjoying my morning cup of coffee.

 

Realism on this forum is a rare thing. It is either way, and nothing between, be it Ukraine war, Gaza, environment, safety (health insurance) Trump or Biden (like there is no other better choices) My opinion, people are stupid, and gets what they deserve.

Geographically Thailand is in a good position. Geo-politically... assuming all out Nuclear war... It is my belief that besides China being bomb to hell... I believe the following countries around the region would also get bombs (At least in their Capital Cities, if not many more).. obviously Japan/Australia/India, but also Taiwan, North korea, South Korea, Vietnam, Philippines, Singapore... At this time I don't think Bangkok would get hit... unless over the coming years the government starts siding with one side or the other.

If a nuclear winter is triggered most of us will die of famine over months. Remote Islands near the equator might be our best bet if that happens. Depending on the season... Wet season would keep most of the fallout away since the winds come from the southwest. Dry season we are screwed... because the winds come from Vietnam/China, so all the radiation will contaminate everything here. Eventually scores of survivors escaping radiation and colder temperatures from the Nuclear fall out will move into what was Thailand and probably keep moving south.

 

I say what was Thailand because I believe in a scenario like that anarchy will rule, everyman for himself... basically it will be hell on Earth for the vast majority of the population.
