steven100
If I had a life threatening allergy or condition I would surely not rely on a waitress to tell me the food is fine. She should have been doubly sure and even then extra careful.. Placing your life at the mercy of a restaurant and/or waiter when you know there's a fair amount of risk involve in any food consumption is foolish. as a customer entering the restaurant, you are to a certain extent responsible for your own personal safety and well being, and that may include not availing one's self to possible reaction from chosen menu items. I cast serious doubt over this lawsuit having any success and also the defendant especially in Thailand, may counter-sue for defamation. but lets see ..... very sad anyway. I think if I knew if was potentially a matter of life and death, then yes I would probably mostly eat my own prepared or production controlled supermarket foods. Realistically, that would likely get boring, so I guess I might start to test out proven safe dishes that are consistently and blandly served across multiple locations e.g fast food chains and maybe develop a trusting relationship with one or two local restaurants but I reckon visiting a new restaurant/food shop whilst on your travels with potentially unfocussed teenagers doing the order-taking and cooking would be putting your personal safety too much in the hands of others. 1

The teenage girl in that case injected 2 epi-pens whilst on the plane but still went into cardiac arrest and died. I am far from an expert on these matters but it would appear if someone has an extremely severe allergy, then even the epi-pens are not enough. I don't know in practice whether sufferers can actually be aware of whether they are just severely allergic or potentially fatally allergic to something. It was probably not the first time that she got into troubles because of her allergy. In most cases the adrenaline pen plus cortison will do. However there are a lot of circumstances that it might fail. To ask the waitress only was not the best decision. The chef/cook is the one who should have addressed. It's sadly too late now. NoDisplayName
4 hours ago, Mike Lister said: She collapsed in the restaurant, I doubt very much that she ordered anything further! Allergic shock reaction tends to be immediate, the autopsy already confirmed her CoD was a 'severe allergic reaction known as anaphylaxis", or allergic reaction. She left the restaurant after the meal, and went to a second location for some reason. 8 hours ago, webfact said: Following the meal, tragedy struck. Dr Kanokporn began experiencing difficulty breathing around 8.45pm, collapsing in a nearby restaurant due to the severe allergic reaction triggered by the food served at Raglan Road. Enough time had passed that her husband was not in the immediate vicinity and unaware of the situation. 8 hours ago, webfact said: Piccolo, unaware of the unfolding tragedy, was informed by a bystander who answered his wife’s phone. Disney lawyers will be collecting all the evidence, including time stamps on the order and receipt and CCTV recordings showing their movements after the meal. Anaphalaxis is not a delayed reaction in most cases. A response causing death I suspect would begin immediately. They will demand any receipts for mixed drinks/snacks at the next establishment visited, and likely introduce the potential of flavored vapes containing allergens used by other patrons. Quote A deadlier type of allergic response is possible, too. Anaphylaxis is a severe and sudden allergic reaction. It occurs within minutes of exposure to an allergen. If not treated appropriately, anaphylaxis can turn deadly very quickly. An allergen may be inhaled, swallowed, touched, or injected. Once an allergen is in your body, an allergic reaction may begin within seconds or minutes. Milder allergies may not cause noticeable symptoms for several hours. The most common allergens include foods, medications, insect stings, insect bites, plants, and chemicals. An allergist is a doctor who specializes in diagnosing and treating allergies. They can help determine your specific allergy issues. https://www.healthline.com/health/allergies/timeline-anaphylactic-reaction#symptoms *edit* It seems quite some time had passed, as she had left to go shopping, likely entering the second restaurant to seek aid. CCTV of her movements in the park afterwards will be essential evidence. From CNN: After dinner, Tangsuan went shopping in the Disney Springs area, and began “suffering from a severe acute allergic reaction” while at Planet Hollywood, according to the lawsuit. https://edition.cnn.com/2024/02/26/business/new-york-doctor-dies-at-disney-world-restaurant-after-staff-confirmed-food-was-allergen-free-lawsuit-alleges/index.html However, 45 minutes after Tangsuan ate her meal, she was in a nearby store alone when she started having a severe allergic reaction to the food she ate and self-administered her EpiPen. She began having difficulty breathing and collapsed before 911 was called and she was taken to the hospital. https://people.com/doctor-dies-allegedly-allergic-reaction-food-disney-world-lawsuit-8600661 Edited February 29 by NoDisplayName 1

No, the family members are not. The lady apparently died from an allergic reaction. But the fact that the reaction occurred 45 minutes after leaving the restaurant, and no telling how long after actually having eaten, points to something other than that specific meal being responsible. But the lawyer may be publicizing the links to Disney to get the public aware of the "facts." Juries are notoriously generous, especially when the "winnings" come from a deep-pockets corporation. Back when I lived in Alburquerque, an elderly woman got a million dollar judgement against McDonald's when she burned herself with hot coffee. Seems she went thru the drive-thru, ordered coffee with her meal, pulled up from the window, took the coffee sitting in a secure no-tip cardboard retainer from the bag, put it between her legs, removed the safety lid marked 'caution, coffee is hot', and then proceeded to drive over a speed bump and spilled coffee in her lap. The lawyer brought in barrista experts to 'testify' that McDonald's coffee was 10 degrees too hot, therefore negligent. The jury thought, "aw, poor lady, it's only a couple million, McDonald's won't miss it." And now you know why Mickey D's coffee is now sold lukewarm. Jingthing
I have this issue with bee stings which I learned as a child. Apparently, she was very allergic to both nuts and dairy. I wasn't even aware of people going into anaphylactic shock from dairy. I associate dairy more with lactose intolerance. I think there might be a clue here. Food industry people may be suffering from customer food intolerance demand inflation. So many people act like they're celiac when they just might be gluten intolerant if even that. Even if celiac which is serious you don't go into shock from that. I'm assuming staffs are trained well about nut allergies, but I wonder if someone says dairy, that it might not always be taken as seriously. It's not an emergency if someone gets a stomach ache.

Lol From the Mayo clinic For some people, an allergic reaction to a particular food may be uncomfortable but not severe. For other people, an allergic food reaction can be frightening and even life-threatening. Food allergy symptoms usually develop within a few minutes to two hours after eating the offending food.
