I would take Switzerland off that list... who cares if you are neutral if all the countries surrounding you have been bomb to hell. The other thing to consider about countries above a certain latitude is... if a nuclear winter follows were the temperatures drops globally... the higher in latitude you are the worst off you will be.

 

My bet are those equatorial Pacific Islands.

This is most definitely a topic most of us would prefer not to think about. A nuclear holocaust is something few of us would escape from, unscathed. I hope it never happens, and that even madmen like Putin, Kim, Netanyahu, and Xi realize there is no upside for anyone.

There is a story that when Trump was prez he asked an adviser "If we have nuclear weapons why don't we use them".

Apparently asked 3 times from the media reports.

 

Seems to have been repeated often if you google "Did Trump ask 'If we have nuclear weapons why don't we use them' " but all the references seem to be from the same source. So who knows?

The closest to danger most get now is watching thrillers on tv.

 

We do have a lot of sheep though, so there is that.

 

 

Just remember the true story of the man in Europe who was wondering the very same thing prior to the outbreak of WW2. He could see that a full on world war was coming so he carefully studied a map of the world, and after considering all the factors he selected a tiny remote island far away in the South Pacific where he could safely live a self-sufficient lifestyle. So a couple of weeks before Hitler invaded Poland, this man departed Europe and relocated to safely wait out the approaching war on the island of Guadalcanal.

In your list of madmen you forgot Biden and Zelensky, Von der Leyen, Trudeau, Sunak.

 

The is no "safe" country and believing so is the ultimate of moronic stupidity and is the exact mindset that will lead to dumbing-down of the commoners into believing that a nuclear war is survivable.  Only for a few who are deep enough under-ground and prepared to stay there until the nuclear winter is over and the radiation levels don't outright kill you.  Morlocks.

Another good book is "Level 7". It's about Russians that survive ( or rather don't survive ) in the deepest bunkers.

 

Best movie I saw about it was Testament. Very harrowing and realistic. Sad too. Have tissues available.

NZ is part of the "Five Eyes" spy programm so may well be a target, and if you think Australia would be safe they also are part of the "Five Eyes". Saying that, being so far from the rest of the world we may have a slim chance of surviving .

I can't see the point of all the bunkers they are building. Nukes from Russia will arrive in 30 minutes. Can you get to the bunker in 15-20 minutes? Unless you are actually in the bunker 24/7/365 you still get fried.

Not if they live in NZ. No one is going to nuke there as they will need one intact country to live in after and NZ has a military as useful to keep them out as shouting "go away".

If NZ goes down it will be because of nuclear winter or radiation, IMO

It definitely sounds like something the numskull would ask. After all he's not the kind of guy who thinks things through, and he probably just assumes that Mar-A-Lago is not subject to radiation. Also, don't forget this is the guy who recommended bleach to get rid of covid, so he might think bleach works for radioactivity too.

Though you are likely correct, there is another potential scenario which is that nuclear winter does not happen, but rather we have a complete economic meltdown which results in total anarchy, and the disintegration of most governmental apparatus. That is a definite possibility and if that happens I would rather be in rural Thailand, than in urban America, that's for sure.

But the billionaires don't live in NZ. Zuckerberg is spending $200 million on his Hawaii bunker. Will he live within 15 minutes travel time of it. Hawaii will be the first to get nuked by Russian subs.

Exactly, that's almost something worth looking forward to. In a twisted sort of way, I'm kind of hoping that things diminish into a form of anarchy, so we have a chance to go after the architects of our downfall. 

 

How much fun would that be and can you imagine the surprised looks on their faces. I thought we were untouchable, I thought we were above you plebs, I never thought any of our actions were going to have any consequences!
