Scientific Crime Detection Division (SCDD) police have found several pieces of evidence which suggest that the fire at a chemical storage facility, in the Phachi district of Ayutthaya province four days ago, was an act of arson.

After the fire at the warehouse, which stores seized chemicals, police uncovered a number of one gallon containers and some bottles containing liquid chemicals at warehouses 1 and 2.

They returned to the site to search warehouse 3 and found several more items suspected to have been used in the arson attack, such as cherry bombs, petrol containers, degraded electrical wires and a large bag containing sawdust.

Someone destroying evidence perhaps?

Could be, that is one of the main six underlying reasons why someone might commit arson. Background checks and evidence should determine why the fires were set.

The six main reasons for arson are normally.

1. The ‘for profit’ arsonist, where someone can profit from the arson attack . This includes extortion, or destroying a property to clear a piece of land.

2. Pyromaniacs, those who  light fires for thrills and attention.

3. Crime concealment, where the arson is secondary to the concealment of another serious crime.

4. Revenge arson, when the offenders are emotionally driven, and set fires out of anger or hatred, or for revenge for a perceived wrong.

5. Extremist motivations, driven by religious, political or social agendas.

6. Vandalism, which are typically by juveniles.
