Israel is at War - General discussion (pt3)

So much winning..and yet...

Israeli Generals, Low on Munitions, Want a Truce in Gaza

Israel’s top generals want to begin a cease-fire in Gaza even if it keeps Hamas in power for the time being, widening a rift between the military and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has opposed a truce that would allow Hamas to survive the war.

The generals think that a truce would be the best way of freeing the roughly 120 Israelis still held, both dead and alive, in Gaza, according to interviews with six current and former security officials.

Underequipped for further fighting after Israel’s longest war in decades, the generals also think their forces need time to recuperate in case a land war breaks out against Hezbollah, the Lebanese militia that has been locked in a low-level fight with Israel since October, multiple officials said.

https://www.nytimes.com/2024/07/02/world/middleeast/israel-military-gaza-cease-fire.html

The article goes on to note that the generals now recognize that the 2 goals of defeating Hamas and rescuing the hostages are mutually incompatible.

It also relays the generals' concern that given Netanyahu's refusal either to occupy Gaza or turn governance over to alternative Palestinian leadership, the war could drag on indefinitely and continue to sap Israel's military strength.

But so what? After all, the IDF keeps on sharing with us the progress it has been making and will continue to make...maybe forever?

Biden forget to approve munition shipments?

History erased

Since the beginning of the war, Unesco has identified damage to at least 50 cultural sites in its damage assessment. Some of those places have a history that goes back thousands of years.

This is of course more war crimes

Intentional attacks against historic monuments and buildings dedicated to religion are serious crimes under the Rome Statute – the founding treaty of the ICC, adopted by more than 120 states from around the world.

Not if they were being used by Hamas terrorists. 👌

Pockets of dissent, hardly surprising knowing they've been used by Hamas leadership as their own "necessary sacrifices"

Hamas faces growing public dissent as Gaza war erodes support

The man in the video is beside himself, a mask of anguish radiating through his bloodied face. “I am an academic doctor,” he says, “I had a good life, but we have a filthy [Hamas] leadership. They got used to our bloodshed, may God curse them! They are scum!” The video - unthinkable before the Gaza war - was filmed outside a hospital, inundated with hundreds of Palestinian casualties after an Israeli operation to free hostages from central Gaza last month.
Warning: Graphic image

Seconds before the video ends, he turns to the crowd.
“I’m one of you,” he says, “but you are a cowardly people. We could have avoided this attack!”
The video went viral. And it’s not the only one.

The ongoing genocide, destruction of Gaza, starvation of Palestinians and devastation of livelihoods, combined with Israel’s strategic and security considerations, point towards a reoccupation of the Gaza Strip with the goal of displacing Palestinians from their land,” Ihab Maharmeh of the Doha Institute said.

If you are interested in helping , or care about the dying children in Gaza, check out Save the Children.

Families in Gaza are being forced from their homes further and further south, into smaller and smaller areas, with no guarantee of safety and no basic services like food, water or medical supplies.

Children are terrified. Their worlds have been destroyed and time is running out.

Ihab Maharmeh who also happens to be a policy maker at the Palestinian Network in Qatar is quoted by Al Jazeera who has employed Hamas terrorists, who is funded by Qatar who also funds Hamas. Excellent authoritative piece there!

In the meantime Hamas are infighting.

Senior Hamas official criticises terror group for not building shelters to protect Gazans
A senior Hamas government employee in Gaza has revealed his fury towards Hamas for putting civilian lives in Gaza in peril with its attack on southern Israel on October 7 and for “neglecting” the home front – including the lack of rocket shelters.
The Hamas official, who spoke to the BBC on the condition of anonymity, said: “I know from my work with the Hamas government that it prepared well for the attack militarily, but it neglected the home front.”
The source criticised the terror group for not building any shelters. Although Hamas constructed a vast network of tunnels under the Gaza Strip, larger in scale than the London Underground network, the group has not built a single shelter for civilians in Gaza.

It has been established that the Palestinians held in Israeli jails are prisoners and NOT hostages and posts stating otherwise are usually removed

Correct, neither, any Israeli or Palestinian civilian, regardless of age or gender, be subjected to the atrocities that have been forced upon themselves from doctrine.

Prisoners under "Administrative Detention" without any charges laid or an avenue of recourse for legal remedy = HOSTAGE. Play further on semantics as you will.😄

You just made up a definition of what the word hostage means 🙂

Look in  a dictionary for what the word really means 🙂

You need to look outside of a biased view of "prisoners" being held upon "Administrative Detention". Maybe before you give an "off the cuff" comment. Research and then expand personal viewpoint.

Do I really need to tell you what a hostage is ?

Its a person being held by a group/another person , held captive and being released on the condition that the captors receive something in return .

Demands being made for a hostages release

A hostage can be anything and anyone  you want it to be .

Some 100 gunmen have been killed and more than 100 sites belonging to terror groups have been destroyed amid the IDF’s ongoing week-long operation in Gaza City’s Shejaiya, the military says.

Over the past day, the IDF says troops killed dozens of gunmen in clashes, tank shelling, and by calling in airstrikes to Shejaiya.

The ministry, which condemned the strike as an “odious massacre”, said another 50 injured were taken to hospital from Al-Jawni school at Nuseirat in central Gaza.

The Israeli military made no immediate comment when approached by AFP.

The Hamas-run government’s press office said there were 7,000 people sheltering at the school.

Why Do Hamas continue using schools for their command centers?

IDF says it struck Hamas operatives who used UN-run Gaza school as command center

The IDF confirms carrying out an airstrike against a United Nations-run school in the central Gaza Strip earlier today, saying the facility was used by Hamas operatives as a command center.

Hamas health authorities have claimed 16 people were killed in the strike and some 50 were wounded.

Before carrying out the strike against UNRWA’s al-Jaouni school in Nuseirat, the IDF says it carried out “many steps” to mitigate harm to civilians, including using aerial surveillance and other intelligence.

So much winning!...on the other hand...

"But three months after Mr. Netanyahu declared that “total victory is within reach,” the military acknowledges that the Rafah siege has eliminated only one-third of Hamas’s brigade. Hamas’s leadership remains intact. And roughly 120 hostages are believed to remain somewhere in Gaza, although about a third are thought to be dead."
