Chiang Mai's Air Pollution Remains of Concern

CHIANG MAI, March 9 (TNA) — Many provinces in the northern region were still affected by high PM2.5 air pollution for three days in a row on Friday.

Some areas the PM2.5 particulate matter level surpassed 800 micrograms per cubic meter. Chiang Mai was ranked as the most polluted city globally for many hours and the pullution has started to have health impact against the people.

 

Doi Luang Chiang Dao in Chiang Mai was heavily covered with the air pollution and the people were unable to see the hill which reflected the severe problem of air smog that covered Chiang Dao district of Chiang Mai. The hourly highest dust level was recorded at over 800 micrograms per cubic meter.

Doi Suthep in the city of Chiang Mai was facing the same fate as it was hidden under the thick smog that covers the city for three days in a row. The flights from Chiang Mai airport could be seen vaguely before quickly disappearing amid the thick smog.

 

This was like an index to indicate how thick the smog covers Chiang Mai. The province on Friday was ranked the world's worst polluted city in the air quality by the IQAir website for many hours. The toxic haze situation was considered unhealthy for the people in Chiang Mai. Many people have to take measures to prevent the ultra- fine dust.

There are fires in the National parks behind DOI Suthep.

I don't know if the govt. sent Helis/special planes to extinguish the fire with water or chemicals?

A plan for the future would be appreciated. However,.....😵‍💫

'Chiang Mai's Air Pollution Remains of Concern"  of concern to whom ,not the Government,

they know every year it's going to happen ,it's not a natural disaster ,it's manmade ,and they

wait till the air is thick with smoke , then say we better do something ,proactive they are not.

As I've reported many times on here, I moved my Thai family to Australia in 2013 after I was diagnosed with laryngeal cancer from 20+ years of breathing Chiang Mai's foul air - I am a non-smoker. The ENT specialist who treated me back then told me that I was the fifth or sixth non-smoking patient he had seen with similar T1 (treatable) throat cancer and ALL had spent a long time in CM. On my final ten year check-up last year, he told me that the number of patients he had seen with similar cancers had now risen to about twenty & all had lived for a long time in LOS. The good news is I don't have to see the specialist again, as ten years after radiation therapy I am cancer free. Any ideas I had of being an opera singer are gone too as I now cough like an old Welsh coal-miner, a side-effect of having my tonsils barbequed. I pity all those Thai children having to suffer, growing up breathing CM air-pollution. The future is bleak, as it only gets worse every year.
