Let me start by saying I have a TG that I met on a recent trip. I would like to fly her over to see me and spend some time, but this is where it gets complicated and I have no clue where to start. I am an American citizen (U.S. Military stationed in Tokyo Japan). I want to fly her here to visit me, but I do not know where to begin in order to get her a Visa for here. I am so confused about where exactly i should start in order to get her the proper visa and documentation. I plan on showing sponsership (I will be paying for the flight, her stay and such). I make decent money and have my own place in japan for her to stay.

Any help or guidance will be greatly appreciated.

She will have to apply at the Japan Embassy in Thailand, not sure of their regulations since all the ones in English are for non-Thai nationals. Presumably the Thai language section has the rules for Thai people. You could also try emailing their office in Bangkok and asking their advice.

Be aware that Japan can be very strict about Thai women entering the country, I remember a case a few years ago of 3 Thai women (one in her 50's, one in her 30's and one a young teenager) in a tour group, with valid visas issued by the embassy, being denied entrance upon arrival in Japan and being deported :o

First of all go to the base legal and get their advice, They can not do any any of the paper work but normally they will have the needed contacts at the embassey. Next if she really is interested in coming to Japan she will do some of the leg work here in Thailand such as phone calls/visit to the embassey (Japan) also does she have passport? When all is sorted try your base mwr for the tickets (round trip) it may be a bit cheaper for you to purchase on base.

The Japan Embassy's website for Thailand has allthe answers you need but they are either in Thai or in Japanese.

She will need :

Passport, ID card, Tabien baan bank book, bank statement +copies

Letter from employer giving number of holiday days

Flight reservations confirmation

Detailed itenienray (and I mean detailed on a daily basis of where what with whom with adresses and phone numbers)

Stay is maximum 3 months in a 6 month period

You need to provide :

Passport copies, letter of guarantee for all expenses, proof of income (emplyer's letter, paycheck slips etc), bank book copies. letter stating where, how, regarding relationship with fotos/e-mcil copies/others.

Apply mornings pick-up 3-4 days later if all ok

Done it for a friend, went smoothly (friend is a he not a she)

Am going to do it again this mid-august

The main difficulty is convincing them that the visa applicat will not engage in employment while in Japan and will return to Thailand at the end of the visa stay.

ANy 'decent' travel agent will be able to help with the paperwork without going to a 'visa agent'

Good luck

Sorry that is not quite true

Has all a lot of information in English and though thay say that it is not for Thai nationals most of it is the same.

You can also call them in English. I did several times before and after I got married. Unlike the UK lot who treat you like criminals. :o

  • Address: 177 Witthayu Road, Lumphini, Pathum Wan, Bangkok
  • Tel: 02-207-8503 / 02-696-3003
  • Fax: 02-207-8511
  • Working hours:
08:30-11:45 (application for temporary & short term stay visa)
13:30-16:00 (application for long term visa with certificate of eligibility)
    08:30-12:00, 13:30-16:00 (inquiry)

The visa will either be decided in 2 days or be refered and then it is usually about 5 days+.

She needs to have a good job and referal from her employer. You do not heed flight information or detailed itinerary (that is for Okinawa) you dont need either as until the visa is granted you dont know if she can come here.

FWIW I (British) live in Tokyo with my wife (Thai)

Glad you had an easy experience at the Japanese Embassy in Bangkok.

I also live in Japan (resident since 1976) and speak, read and write the language (my wife was Japanese)

The information on the website for Thai nationals in Japanese and in Thai only does list the required documents as I listed them.

My experience has been that more is better than less but I have only prepared application folders for single young Thais (short term visa) so I do not have first hand experience when the applicant is married to the sponsor in Japan.

The sample forms (in Japanese) to be supplied by the sponsor/guarantor can be dowloaded here

Good luck with your application

I agree that you are treated fairly and not like a criminal at this Embassy.
