Boy, 11, declines HIV test knowing partner’s positive status

Featured Replies

An 11 year old boy stunned medical professionals with his response to a suggestion for an HIV test after a genital discharge complaint. The boy confidently declined the test, indicating that he was already aware of his status through his partner, an 18 year old girl.

The alarming case emerged on the popular Facebook page ไม่ใช่หมอบ่น-aggressivenotdoctor, where it was revealed that the young patient sought medical help for a pus-like discharge from his genital area. When the doctor proposed an HIV test, the boy’s reply was as shocking as it was revealing.

He stated there was no need for the test as his partner was HIV positive, and he believed he had contracted the virus from her. This case sparked widespread concern and discussion on social media.

Many users expressed alarm over the societal issues reflected in the revelation, particularly the increasing trend of pregnancies among girls aged 10-14 and the sexual exploitation of minors. The incident underscores the vital need for comprehensive sex education, especially as curiosity about sexual matters is a natural part of adolescence.

In the past, such topics were often shrouded in secrecy within Thai society but the current generation faces even greater risks without proper guidance and education due to the wealth of information, and misinformation, available to them.

One social media user shared a similarly distressing encounter, recalling a time when they had to inform a middle school student that he was HIV positive. The young boy, undaunted, had responded with a chilling confidence, suggesting that if he were infected, it was likely his entire classroom was as well.

Sexual health awareness

The exchange between the 11 year old patient and the doctor raises serious questions about the state of sexual health awareness among Thai youth. It highlights an urgent need for open conversations and education on sexual health to prevent the spread of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections.

It also calls attention to the legal and ethical implications of underage sexual relationships, particularly where there is a significant age gap between partners, as in the case of the 11 year old boy and his 18 year old girlfriend.

As the Facebook page continues to share such narratives, it becomes clear that these are not isolated incidents but rather indicative of broader societal challenges that need to be addressed with compassion, education, and effective public health strategies.

The hope is that by bringing such stories to light, a pathway can be forged towards better understanding and support for the younger generation as they navigate the often difficult journey of adolescence.

There are usually more to these stories than initially told .

He could be covering for someone , being forced to tell that story .

One can only hope that somebody in authority takes notice, and starts some long required program of sexual health awareness for kids, to try and bring to an end this ridiculous situation of almost every girl over 16 having a kid, and no father.  Almost makes one cry, honestly!

On what planet does anyone have the right to force a test or treatment on anyone.  He refused a test, so what.  You can't treat what hasn't been diagnosed.

And no mention of parents or guardian, as how is an 11 yr old admitted to hospital or seen be a doc.  FB pages are now the source of news-blips ... :cheesy:

sometimes you think you've heard it all in Thailand.

Then a new one comes along

What a dilemma for all involved.

On a planet where this potentially deadly disease needs to be caught early and stymied to prevent it spreading further.

But yeah, people might focus on the lad and say, fair play young un, but what is an 18y old girl think she’s doing lying down with a pre-pubescent? She is sick in the head, esp knowing she’s already unclean with HIV. She needs locking up to protect society.

No, the current problem is children having children with children, and mainly because they're fathers aren't around to guide them, along with their mothers thinking going to a large city to work and sending a little money home, not seeing their kids but a couple times a year, while grandma watches them and allows them to do things a responsible parent wouldn't.

Have you considered an 11 yr old boy, on FB, stating he has an 18 yr old girl friend, might be a slight embellishment, if it happened at all, which I highly doubt.

I await the next news-blip about the foreigner that has had enough of TH, and left, only to return, since his GF begged & cried so much, that the right thing to do was come back ... :coffee1:

True, he might not actually have contracted HIV from her but another STD or UTI.

So he will be allowed to go on and transfer his HIV to other unsuspecting people?

Did he refuse treatment or simply a test (as the OP seems to state)? As blood is usually needed perhaps his right to refuse.

He obviously had contracted some STD but a test for HIV was the doctors suggestion. Not unusual.

Fake news ... as when has a Thai doc, ever tested for any suspected infection ...

... here's your script for antibodies, if not cleared up in 2 weeks, come back.

So was this in Thailand? nothing in the story to say it was.

There is a need for education indeed. And that includes geezers posting on Aseannow. Considering the reactions I have read on the thread on PrEP.

Kudos for the girl; at least she told her partner she was HIV positive.

Not sure if I believe this story.

I don't. It's too far-fetched IMO.

That aside, if it had been an 18-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl he would be in jail facing severe charges of rape etc

Simple short term solution, start medication without delay. Longer term societal issues more complicated.

I would have been unusual in an 11 year old boy.

CDC states chances of a male catching HIV from an infected female is 1 in 2500.

So he'd need to have been banging her every day since he was 8 to have a 50% chance of infection.
