Overseas Police Clearance

Featured Replies

Has anyone attempted to get an overseas police check from Thai police whilst living outside of Thailand, for a teaching job overseas?

Thanks.

The trouble with that service posted is that many countries will require such documents to be apostilled and as Thailand is not in that treaty, then often officially translated and officialized at the embassy of the country you need it for.

So to do that you would need to do in Thailand and there is usually (typically six month) a timeline where such documents retain validity.

Not needed. It's for UK.

Thank you.

Yeah that's great.

The first link doesn't do that.

I'm sure expensive but cheaper than flying back to Thailand.

I don't see that on the website. In fact it says that they can't

"Authentication and legalization (apostille);

Thailand is not participating in the Apostille Convention (The Hague), therefore, all Thai-issued documents cannot be apostille. If you intend to use Thai documents in some countries, you may need to have your document authenticated and legalized by the embassy of that country in Thailand."

Edit: I just double checked and it does say they they offer "authentication - legalization or apostille services". It also states that they have an office in Canada and that may only apply to non-Thai documents authenticated in Canada.

That is correct and its a pita.

If this is for a teaching job seems like schools are far more insistent on checks for UK than US. I'd never been requested and employed by half dozen schools. My advice if you're anticipating rather than knowing check with the school.

Any other job types I've no idea

For Gov.schools here...the school will send you to  the immigration forensics dept.  pay 100.baht ,pick it up in a week.   all they do is check if you are a criminal in thailand. useless.

I'd taught in three public, three private. No one checked. Three schools I had Thai license and all I had California tertiary license with fbi check (no one asked/cared). All my docs totally in order. Letters of recommendation, etc. Never asked. Not set in stone.
