Blinken says China helping fuel Russian threat to Ukraine

In a significant warning, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken emphasized that the United States will take action if China continues to provide Russia with crucial items used in its assault on Ukraine. Blinken, speaking to the BBC in Beijing, underscored that such actions from China were contributing to the most significant threat to European security since the Cold War.

While Blinken did not specify what measures the US might take, he commended Beijing for its efforts in halting the flow of the drug fentanyl to the US, acknowledging the role China could play in addressing critical issues like the Middle East situation.

The visit marks a notable increase in dialogue and diplomacy between the US and China, aiming to stabilize relations after a period of heightened tension. The strained relationship between the two countries has been exacerbated by various issues, including China's territorial claims, export bans, and disputes over technology.

Despite the challenges, both sides have expressed a desire for positive progress. Chinese President Xi Jinping highlighted the potential for partnership between the two nations, emphasizing the importance of a positive outlook on China's development.

Blinken's remarks to the BBC emphasized the need for China to cease providing critical components that aid Russia's military capabilities. These components, which include machine tools, microelectronics, and optics, are crucial for Russia's munitions production and contribute to its aggression against Ukraine, posing a significant threat to European security.

While Blinken hinted at the possibility of sanctions against Chinese entities involved in such activities, he clarified that China was not directly supplying Russia with weapons. He also emphasized the importance of exploring areas of mutual interest for cooperation between the US and China, such as artificial intelligence and military communications.

Tug - Your answer has merit.   China is buying cheap oil from Russia and Iran.  Trump had Iran in a box and your hero Biden let them out and gave them billions more to boot.  The oil Iran is selling is funding Iran to fund all the terrorist groups in the area.  Biden - Always on the wrong side of history.  John McCain warned us how bad Blinken would be and he is right.  Biden and Blinken are both anti-semantic.  The Blinken State Dept. put out a 103 page report on countries guilty of war crimes and the name at the top of the list is Israel.  They, together want to destroy Israel and the United States and are doing a great job of it.  thaibeachloves posted the truth.

On all fronts incorrect. A laughable post.

Of course china is supporting Russia. They want the West weak an divided.

If in the short term it helps them with cheap oil, all the better. But China thinks long term. They don't care about Russia.

Well I agree that China isn't a real ally of Russia.

They will pounce the moment they can to seize "historical" Chinese lands now owned by Russia.

But Russia takes whatever "friends" it can get -- China. North Korea, Iran. etc.

Antony, after that "significant warning", don't forget to get on your knees and ask China to keep buying US debt!

What's he going to do, slap him with a wet fish?

Blinken has proven himself to be a nothing, a tinkling bell of insignificance, a man without integrity, a liar and a loser, IMO.

The US is attacking China on various fronts, so it's a bit rich for Blinken to go there and make demands.

China has countries it makes money off, and allies. The US is not in the allies category.

Russia is an ally, and China will support it, so nuts to Blinken.

Anyway, the whole thing is blatant hypocrisy writ large. The US sends billions of $ worth of weapons to Ukraine but demands that no one supports Russia. What planet is Blinken orbiting, Uranus perhaps?

China's trade is dominantly with NATO countries and allies such as Japan, SK, OZ, etc.... and the U.S. is the first trade partner.

Complete B.S.!

If the US is able to sell products to its allies like Ukraine, then so is China. If the US wants to make an issue of it, they can. But how do they police trade between countries that have a land border?

But in this time of war and weaponised illegal sanctions, China would be a fool to isolate itself from Russia by becoming a US vassals and toeing the line on sanctions. China is next on the chopping block and will be the next major war unless Iran plays up too badly.

I'm sure the US is dreaming up sanctions for China but Russia has shown the world how to avoid sanctions and such sanctions will only advance de-dollarisation, that can't come fast enough for me.

The other thing is the rollover of US debt. If China doesn't turn up at the auctions the US will find debt more expensive and harder to come by.

The point is that they are forming new alliances so as not to depend so much on US ,Europe, NATO and other various vasal states.

I believe this Blinken visit is a prelude to more sanctions on China

and so they are right to look towards strengthening ties with less sanctimonious  trading partners.

Ever heard of BRICS ?

Have you ever looked at China trade statistics? And BRICS is neither an alliance nor a trade zone.

The main trade partners of any BRICS country (apart from Russia) are NATO countries and allies.

Here are the China trade statistics by country.

China - the backyard whining bully.

On the one hand China aids Russia with military supplies in Russia's illegal war against Ukraine and crimes against humanity. But China doesn't like to be held accountable.

On the other hand, "China tells US to not take sides on South China Sea issue,"  March 20, 2024  https://www.reuters.com

China warns the US from "starting up trouble" or taking sides on the South China Sea issue, specifically siding with the Philippines whose claims to sovereignty to part of the South China Sea were supported by the International Court.*

Absolute hogwash. There was never a threat to Europe. But there is now.

Sounds like China and America are behaving in the same way, though from opposite sides.
