snoop1130
A heated argument in Bangkok ended with a police officer being violently attacked, suffering severe head injuries after his efforts to calm the situation failed. The officer was hit on the head with a bread knife in what can be described as a fit of blind rage. This incident occurred near a gas station on Krung Kasem Road in the Pom Prap Sattru Phai district. A 43-year-old man, Apivat, argued with a group of homeless individuals before attacking Police Lieutenant Pongsarat Prawakho. Pongsarat is a traffic control officer with the Expressway 1 Traffic Control Center, and Apivat struck him with a large bread knife. Pongsarat ended up with three serious head injuries. At 9.30 am the following day, officers from the Plubplachai 2 Police Station took Apivat into custody. He was brought back to the crime scene to recreate his actions as part of his confession, before legal proceedings began. During the reenactment, Apivat claimed that he was in a fight with a group of homeless individuals who wanted to damage his vehicle. This caused people nearby to call Lieutenant Pongsarat for help. After leaving the argument and heading towards the gas station, Apivat noticed a bread knife at a noodle vendor’s dishwashing area. Still angry, he picked up the knife to attack his earlier adversaries. According to Apivat, Lieutenant Pongsarat got in his way and ended up being hit with the knife unintentionally, since Apivat was lashing out without looking at whom he was hitting. Apivat has stated that he didn't realize he was attacking a police officer at the time. This incident underscores the unpredictable nature of street confrontations and the risks that law enforcement officers face daily. The police’s quick response in containing the assailant is praiseworthy, given the chaos and danger involved in controlling the situation. This incident has highlighted Lt. Pongsarat’s dedication to his duty, even in the face of injury, earning him immense respect. As the case enters the legal phase, further investigations and legal proceedings will occur. The local community has been left deeply disturbed by the violent attack and the severe injuries the police officer sustained. This incident is a strong reminder of the need for constant vigilance and the chance for conflicts to escalate in urban areas. File photo for reference only. torturedsole
No mention of the officer pulling his handgun. He should have drawn as soon as the atmosphere changed. Either way, I hope he recovers from his injuries. 1

As he was not recognisable as a police officer. according to the attacker, being an Expressway Traffic Control officer perhaps he wasn't armed at the time or on duty? Let's hope they perform more admirably next time.

RichardColeman
Have to say that I am sick of my UK charging people with GBH for knife attacks rather than attempted murder. ALL knife attacks should carry mandatory 15 years to start
