Russia fires intercontinental ballistic missile in attack on Ukraine, Kyiv says

KYIV, Nov 21 (Reuters) - Russia launched an intercontinental ballistic missile during an attack on Ukraine on Thursday, Kyiv's air force said, in the first known use in the war of such a powerful, nuclear-capable weapon with a range of thousands of kilometres.
The air force reported the launch after Ukraine fired U.S. and British missiles at targets inside Russia this week, despite warnings by Moscow that it would see such action as a major escalation in the 33-month-old war.

One may ask why has Putin chosen this moment to make his move on Ukraine? As many have pointed out, Russia is an objectively weak state — “Upper Volta with nuclear weapons,” as someone once quipped — with a nominal G.D.P. smaller than that of South Korea. Outside of energy, minerals and second-rate military equipment, it produces almost nothing that outsiders want: no Russian iPhone, Lexus or “Fauda.” If it were not for the minerals, oil and natural gas, I believe Russia would be a highly irrelevant state. Sure, it had alot of culture. Had. What have it's contributions been since the middle of the 20th century?

Putin’s problem with Ukraine, starting with the Maidan uprising of 2014, is that Ukrainians want nothing to do with him. He is despised. And for good reason. If he were a Disney character, he’d be Rapunzel’s mother. But, he is not a Disney character, which makes him a pathetic, aggressive, serial killing despot dictator, who appears to be targeting women and children in his latest escapade, and further walk into the world of darkness.

Seems Putin is your next Trump character to attack with vapid insults.

Perhaps he is all what you say, but just like Trump on January 20 is a man with lots of nuclear war heads. Not to be insulted lightly.

Do I get to say "I told you so" now?

War mongers should be careful what they wish for.

I did say many things when this war started, and no doubt there are two parts who have pushed their limits, and stepped on each one's toes, but that's way back now, and the proxy war is real. We can't back off now. As much as it is a game of trench war, you go two steps one way, you go two steps back, that's the nature of it, since no part wants to escalate more than necessary.

One thing, Russia has patience and time while they build their war machinery, same as China, and every other country supporting the axis of evil. If you pay attention to non western media's propaganda, you know, Russia has a growing sympathy, especially after Israel's payback  or their war on terrorism, doing the same mistakes as Usa did in their war. Excessive revenge attacks and occupation leaving millions as civilians as refugees, and millions of civilians died in the war on terror and then continuously in the aftermath of the impact the war had in the regions they attacked and occupied. A war that is continuously going on today in Syria, Yemen and Afghanistan as well Iraq, and other regions involving many minorities as well neighbouring countries

The western credibility is at its lowest ever, and that's why Russia with help, can continue this war for years, while our motivation will come to an end to support Ukraine.

We do not have the will, budgets or armour to continue. Two wars have left us with critical low stock supplies of high tech weapons and ammunition.

Is a gift to China and their allies how the war escalates and divides people in Ukraine where they have their highest number of soldiers deserting, and young men escaping Ukraine for not being enrolled. And not to forget why the war is one of the reasons why Trump won the election.

The war is so much more complex, and the link to Israel and how this is leading to the lowest trust in the west, Un and other peacekeeping organisations.

The most dangerous right now, we give Putin what he wants. But unfortunately, so many hates Usa, the West and everything we have done to keep us on top of the food chain for this short time in history, so, what do you really want to happen? And how are we getting ourselves out of this situation?

In the beginning I thought this war was going to be a disaster and we did many mistakes, promising to much, and kept  the Ukrainians on their tow, giving aid to slow, to little, to restrictive rules on how they were going to use the weapons given, while the Russians terror attacked civilians on daily basis.

Now think back on how the Ukrainians feel after more than 1000 days at war, at war with a force that is just coming, and coming, and they can not do much, and still need approval from the west about what they can do. Two neighbouring countries, same people, same culture, hate each other. How is Georgia today compared to Ukraine?

What a mess, what a disaster, but we cant give up Ukraine now

Im sorry to say, I predicted this war to go on for years, involve Europe and risk Europe to be dragged in, and also the blockade would fail, and I was told this war was going to end in a month or two,

Anyone have a link to the very first thread about the Ukraine war? would be interesting to read the 100 first pages,

Who is this 'WE'?

I can see Trump pulling out completely the moment he gains office.

And I'm not part of fighting for anyone or anything.

Let the 3rd world fight each other until they're all dead!

I'm still a European citizen, so yes it is we, since our governments support this war, and my personal opinion doesn't matter, because my government makes decisions on behalf of me whether I like it or not. Even though I'm against the war, I know my responsibility as a citizen of my country. I want the west to continue to be the major power in this world even though I dislike many of their actions to keep the power.

If we lose, I know our successors will not be any better than us, and it will be a sad world bending over to Russia and China as they do and have done for a long time now

Would a Europe under Russian rule being any worse than the EU under German rule.

It might be better as I can't see Russia allowing all this multicultural nonsense.

Could Putin do a worse job than Keir/Makron/Merkel?

You got a fear point, a valid point, where we have allowed too many multi-cultural emigrants coming to Europe, and very many young men as well who have an opposing religion creating sub cultures inside Europe. It is a real threat, I get that. Still being under an alliance inside Europe vs being under an Kreml based alliance would be quite different. No doubt about it, so be careful what you wish for.

Just think for a sec about your position in an Asian country? On a limited pension from your origin country. Doesn't take much before your situation could turn on you, and your family

Reading the history shows the real cruelty out there, and the Nato Alliance hasn't been that bad if you know your history.

Unfortunately we haven't played our cards as members of democratic countries, and have elected politicians on behalf of ourselves who have given too many promises because having a safe country, good health and good education as well enough food on the table was not enough. We wanted more, and more and more to be happy, or think we would be more happy becoming an ant colony who strive for more honey than necessary

Strategically it's in the USA interest to have a weak Russia. Trump doesn't care about Europe, so i see him continuing help to Ukraine, albeit at a lesser scale.
