I agree, and that's what I thought first about him, too. I could never imagine anyone actually voting for him for president or for anything! 

Also, the fact is, in both his presidential contests, including the one he won, he did not get the majority of votes in the USA. He was elected by the Electoral College. Yeah, but the so-called "popular vote" is a meaningless number to throw around. Both parties and candidates know that the College is the key, and campaign accordingly.   

 

In Canada, we have the same situation. For the past 2 elections, the Liberal Party didn't win the "popular vote", yet they won a plurality of seats in Parliament and were able to form the government.  Them's the rules. 

 

There really aren't that many countries that elect leaders by pure vote AFAIK.

Let's say that I agree with everything that you say about Trump. The question then is why 74 million US citizens voted for such a man, rather than Hillary, such a fine example of the Washington elite establishment? Why was he elected and not her? Could it be that millions of Americans hate Washington ( or her ) so much that they would vote for such a man?
