You can obtain a non O retirement at example Thai consult Saigon.

Located handy to Tourist area District 1

You require an appointment which can be booked out in advance.

Vietnam good choice for your mini trip out of Thailand

Thanks again for your help.

Tour of Nam appeals more than returning to the poo hole.

"Spy tee car"

"Cop Coon Car"

Your OP clearly suggests that you're a man so why are you demonstrating your "knowledge" of Thai by speaking as a female would?

Oh, men and women speak a different language?

That will make it a bit tricky.

If you go the marriage route, make sure that you get married at a local district office (amphur), not just the temple!

Ok

The girlfriend said we have the wedding at her house, but I will tell her for the visa we will do it at the district office.

Is it expensive? Do they do catering etc?

The house wedding isn't a real "wedding", it's a cultural ritual, actual official weddings are performed at the amphur (registry office, if you like) and, no, they do not do catering.

Which one do you do first?

Doesn't matter, the house one counts for bugger all in real life.

It was actually worth it for your interpretation of "cop coon car."

Sorry if my questions make me sound a bit stupid.

You must admit it is a bit different here. Must take the good with the bad, and so far the good is winning by a mile.

Oh, yes, I'm sorry, I didn't realise what you meant, the amphur staff will lay that on for you, no problem.

One last question.

if I do the retirement visa and then get married I then have to change it?

No. At that stage you can choose whether to go with a retirement visa/extension or a marriage visa.

No.

When permission of stay based on retirement ends you can apply for extension based on marriage.

You'd have to return to the UK for good if you disrespected a "retirement visa" by getting married.

Google is your friend. Get lost.

to all those who have helped me today thank-you very much. I will sleep better tonight and will be off to Saigon soon.

To the Germans and lizards, you were half the reason I left the west to come to Thailand. You are just reinforcing to me I made the right decision. So thanks to you also.

And a tip. good manners go a long way in Thailand, being rude will get you nowhere.

I'm surprised that no one has yet pointed out to him that there are no such things as "retirement" or "marriage" visas!

I hope you are joking.

When he’s on another of B Smith’s fantasy topics giving him some grief , so he’s either a very quick learner with an excellent judge of character or he’s just winding us and Bob up , either way it is entertaining !!
