Amazon & Thai tax

Featured Replies

I haven't done any Amazon-ing from Thailand, hence my tax question.

When I order 1 item, cost about $20, Amazon does not charge Thai tax, but there is a delivery charge.

When I increase the purchased amount to $35-40, there is no delivery charge, but I have to pay tax.

I thought Thai tax kicked in after 1500 baht, and $35 is way less.

Any thoughts? Tricks? Way around?

My advice is to make use of that free delivery to Thailand as it is only a limited time offer that comes up from time to time.

This probably occurred because some of your items have no import duty while others do.

Not really. It was just more of the same item.

I’ve ordered all sorts of junk from Amazon for delivery here in Thailand.  As I recall, if the item is less than about $20 or maybe $30 dollars, no Thai tax is collected.  Items totaling more than that get taxed.  Sometimes the tax seems extremely high.
And sometimes, I later get a refund to my credit card for part of the tax. I guess someone looks at those items and if they think too much tax was collected, they refund the excess.
