July 2, accident on Sukhumvit Road, Chanthaburi.

 

The Sawang Katanyu Rescue Center in Chanthaburi received a report from the 191 emergency hotline about an accident on Sukhumvit Road (Route 3), in front of Denchan Tile Factory, Tha Mai District, Chanthaburi Province. Rescue volunteers were dispatched to the scene immediately.


A white passenger van from Trat was found at the scene. The side of the van was severely damaged, with 7 passengers injured, including 1 foreign national in critical condition. A white 10-wheel Isuzu truck, from Samut Prakan was parked about 20 meters away from the impact site.

 

Rescue personnel provided first aid to the critically injured passenger and transported them to Tha Mai Hospital. The remaining six passengers, who sustained minor injuries, were given first aid before being sent to nearby hospitals.

 

Mr. Sompoch (Last Name Withheld), 49, van driver, stated that he was driving from Chonburi to drop off passengers at the Chanthaburi bus terminal. He had parked on the left shoulder of the road to deliver goods to a customer. While returning to his van, a truck coming from behind crashed into the back of his van, causing it to veer off the road, injuring all the passengers inside.

 

Mr. Wanchai (Last Name Withheld), 10-Wheel Truck Driver, admitted that he saw the van parked on the roadside but, while checking his right mirror to view the traffic behind, lost control and crashed into the van. He managed to stop his truck about 20 meters from the accident site and immediately rushed to help the injured.


A blue Honda Wave motorcycle, from Chanthaburi was also found in the ditch near the accident site. The motorcycle belonged to Mr. Jirakorn (Last Name Withheld), 51, a kebab vendor at Tha Mai market. He had come to collect the goods from the van. He reported that while he was closing the van's door, he saw the truck crash into the van. He narrowly escaped being hit by stepping back just in time.


Police officers from Chanthaburi City Police Station and officials from the Chanthaburi Highway Department and the Provincial Transport Office arrived at the scene to investigate. They took photographs and interviewed witnesses to compile a report for further legal proceedings.
