10,000-Baht Grant for Over 30 Million People Unlikely This Year
It is unlikely that over 30 million Thai citizens will receive a 10,000-baht grant under the second phase of the Pheu Thai-led populist handout scheme this year, Deputy Finance Minister Julapun Amornvivat stated yesterday (Sep. 24). Out of approximately 45 million Thais, around 14.5 million will start receiving the funds through their state welfare cards today (Sep. 25), with the remaining 30 million expected to wait until next year, according to Julapun. Among the 14.5 million recipients classified as "fragile," three million will get the 10,000-baht handout tomorrow, with others following daily, the deputy minister added. However, the second phase of the government's delayed handout, intended for over 30 million people, is unlikely to roll out in the fourth quarter of this year, which starts next month, Julapun noted. It is still uncertain whether the second phase will include the 10,000-baht digital wallet handout, as initially promised by the Pheu Thai party, the core of the coalition government, under the 2025 budget. Residence certificate with Tourist Visa?
Yes it is a recent change, posted a day ago. "Tod Daniels Admin Top contributor IF you're talking about Bangkok immigrations they no longer require you to be on a visa/extension where you do 90 day reporting to get a certificate of residence, You DO need a TM30 <notification of foreigner in residence, to have been filed on you by your land lord or yourself as far as where you live because they mail the certificate of residence to that address. In Bangkok you go to the main immigration office at the government complex Building B out at Chaengwattana Road, you want section B (they do TM30 and Certificate of Residence) You fill out the form, make the copies they require, pay 200 baht, they give you a receipt and a Thai Post EMS tracking number and the certificate of residence is mailed to you in about 5 days This is an example of the form you fill out for a certificate of residence" -

Identification now required to make a cash deposits at Thai Banks?
Yes when I am back in the US my CA Drivers license is sufficient. But in LOS only a Passport will do. Big difference between carrying a passport compard to carrying a DL. Also, my CA DL has pretty much worthless in LOS. Also, I have not been called "Dude" in a very long time. -

14-Year-Old Girl Fatally Stabs Grandmother Following Heated Argument
is it really a case of lack of respect ? don't thnk so Everybody,,, and I do mean everybody has a different set of limits and can only be pushed so far before some form of action is taken seems the compilation of factors this young child had to endure caused her to hit that limit and snap. Seems fair to assess that lack of a complete formal education and a loving family and social bond combined with the general cultural acceptance of low values placed on human life contributed to a terrible outcome. Mother dumped the kids on grandma .( plus deadbeat dad ) Grandma and Grandpa left holding the bag..seems Grandma didn't do too good of a job raising the kids mother, now she stuck with double duty and acting out in her way / drinking and verbally abusive while her husband appears to be not able to intervene and control Granny.. and look at the outcome This movie would give Physco a run for it's money. -

14-Year-Old Girl Fatally Stabs Grandmother Following Heated Argument
This is very common in Thailand. The grandparents are responsible for the grandchildren while the parents go to work in Bangkok or overseas. In this case it is very sad because the mother abandoned the children. That must have caused some serious mental issues with the kids. -

Iran Behind Cyberattack Targeting Sweden with Revenge Texts Over Quran Burnings
Swedish authorities have accused Iran of orchestrating a cyberattack that resulted in thousands of text messages being sent to residents in Sweden, calling for revenge over Quran burnings in 2023. The public desecrations of Islam's holy book, which occurred over several months that year, sparked outrage, leading to tensions both domestically and internationally. According to Sweden’s domestic security agency, SAPO, the cyberattack was traced back to Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard (IRGC). Mats Ljungqvist, a senior prosecutor in Stockholm, stated that a data breach occurred at a Swedish company that manages a large SMS service, enabling around 15,000 text messages to be sent in Swedish. The messages reportedly demanded revenge for the burnings and came from a group calling itself the Anzu team. One message, shared by Swedish broadcaster SVT, described those responsible for the Quran desecrations as "demons" and warned that their work would be "covered in ashes." These threats arrived in August 2023, shortly after the Quran burnings, which were organized under Sweden’s constitutionally protected right to free speech. The controversial rallies—approved by police but condemned by many—reflected the country’s strong stance on free expression. However, they also ignited debate over the balance between freedom of speech and respect for religious minorities. Sweden’s government condemned the burnings as an "Islamophobic act," but also emphasized that the actions did not represent the country's stance. The burnings also added complexity to Sweden’s bid to join NATO, a move that gained urgency following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Turkey, a key NATO member, initially opposed Sweden’s membership, partly due to the anti-Islamic protests. However, after several diplomatic engagements, Sweden successfully joined NATO in March 2024. The cyberattack, attributed to Iran, appeared to be a deliberate attempt to sow discord within Swedish society. SAPO’s operational manager, Fredrik Hallström, stated that the messages aimed to depict Sweden as an Islamophobic nation and create societal division. He noted that foreign powers are increasingly taking advantage of vulnerabilities, acting more aggressively, and warned of a potential escalation of such activities. Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer echoed the gravity of the situation, calling the Iranian-backed attack a serious attempt to destabilize Sweden. Though Sweden’s legal system does not currently prohibit the burning of religious texts like the Quran, officials emphasized that foreign interference in Swedish affairs posed a significant threat. Despite the closure of the preliminary investigation into the data breach, prosecutor Ljungqvist clarified that the suspected hackers had not been completely ruled out. The investigation could be reopened should further evidence arise. Meanwhile, Iran’s embassy in Sweden has yet to comment on the accusations, and tensions between the two countries persist. This incident marks yet another flashpoint in the ongoing confrontation between Iran and various Western countries, with cyberattacks becoming a key tool in Iran’s strategy to challenge its adversaries. It also highlights the challenges Sweden faces in navigating its commitment to free speech while maintaining social cohesion in the face of foreign interference.
