A man was fatally assaulted by his friend after an argument over buying liquor in Buriram Province, leaving the community in shock. The incident occurred yesterday in the village of Kradon, Huai Rat District.

Police Lieutenant Ongart Manobal, Deputy Inspector of Huai Rat Police Station, received a report about a fatal assault. Upon arriving at the scene with a rescue team, police discovered the body of 46 year old Supot, lying on the roadside.

His face bore severe wounds from being struck with a hard object, and he had multiple stab wounds on his abdomen. Nearby, a broken plastic chair and blood-stained wooden sticks were found.

Residents identified the assailant as 47 year old Bunchoet, the owner of the house where the incident took place. Police detained Bunchoet, who appeared intoxicated and gave incoherent statements.

He denied the assault, claiming the chair broke on its own and that he only poked Supot with the stick playfully.

Bunchoet admitted he was upset because Supot had asked him to buy liquor, accusing him of taking advantage and only buying one round while Supot had bought two.

Siam, the 73 year old victim’s father, revealed that Bunchoet had a history of violence in the village. Previous incidents included breaking someone’s ribs and slashing another’s throat, though none had been fatal.

Each time Bunchoet was jailed for a few months, he would resume his violent behaviour upon release, instilling fear in the community. As a teenager, Bunchoet was known to be addicted to drugs, which likely contributed to his violent tendencies.

This latest assault stemmed from an argument over who should purchase liquor. After Supot had already bought liquor twice, Bunchoet had only gone once, leading to a heated dispute that tragically ended in Supot’s death.

Siam expressed a desire for the highest possible legal penalty to be imposed on Bunchoet, as the villagers had lived in fear for years, especially since Bunchoet had recently been released from prison for attempted murder, reported KhaoSod.

The police have now detained Bunchoet and will proceed with legal action.

Therein lies the problem.  Jailed for  a few months!!!!,  Slashing another's throat warranted a death sentence! Too late for Supot, sadly!
