Second Chinese-Language Billboard Ad Emerges In Thailand

In an unexpected turn of events, another large Chinese-language billboard has emerged, this time in Prachinburi, drawing significant public attention.

 

This follows the recent removal of a similar controversial advertisement in Bangkok’s Huai Khwang area. The new advertisement, located at Rojana Industrial Estate, extends job opportunities in Thailand to workers from Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam.

 

Shortly after the billboard's existence became public knowledge, officials swiftly took it down. The quick action did not, however, dampen public outcry, particularly from concerned Thai nationals.

 

Thai social media platforms buzzed with a flurry of comments. One user expressed concern that such trends could eventually lead to fewer job opportunities for Thai citizens.

 

Another netizen pointed out the prevalence of similar billboards in Rayong, questioning why authorities had yet to take action there. Others lamented the increasing presence of Chinese influence in the country, emphasizing the challenge faced by unemployed locals.

 

On the heels of this development, Immigration Police have ramped up their investigation into the previously displayed Chinese-language billboard at Huai Khwang intersection.

 

The billboard controversially advertised the sale of passports from various countries, including Indonesia, Vanuatu, Cambodia, and Turkey, with prices ranging from 30,000 to 150,000 baht.

 

Police have interrogated a Chinese national, Ms. Nasu, linked to the previous billboard. According to a local news outlet, Ms. Nasu revealed that a Hong Kong-based company had reached out to her through Chinese messaging platforms, offering 150,000 baht per month for the advertising space and 60,000 baht to create the billboard.

 

Ms. Nasu's fee for facilitating the billboard was approximately 17,000 baht. However, she declined to disclose the name of the Hong Kong entity. Currently, police have charged her with working in Thailand without the necessary permit.

 

As the authorities continue to crack down on unauthorised and potentially deceptive advertisements, the broader implications for Thailand's employment landscape and foreign influence remain a topic of public debate.

Thailand should expect more ads posted in Chinese here since they have opened their borders and allow anyone in without visa. Similarly, I expect soon we will see Russians trying to do the same. Thailands opening of borders without Visas is opening a can of worms they will not like.

Migrants will opt for a dodgy passport, leave the country, thus leaving job opportunities for Thais

Gradually the US Embassy in the Land Of Smiles is becoming irrelevant excpet for renewing American Passports. As an American in LOS I see useless campaigns like "Buy American products and study in the USA' efforts put on by the US Embassy as exercises in futility. The war of influence has been won by the PRC. Many of the Chinese I have come into contact with LOS do not speak or undestand English or Thai.  They expect people to understand when they shout in Mandarin.  I can't blame them for feeling this way.

While the billboards may be a recent development there are plenty of shops that have been around for years that only have Chinese signage on them. Plenty of Chinese temples that have been around for years as well. Not to mention the Chinese new year celebrations.

However, those who come to Thailand do not belong to the most educated people in China. They come because it's cheap and a kind of museum combined with good food.

The educated people speak English. That is my experience.🙏

I only had dollars and Thai baht, but she would not take them..

I made that up, but it won't be long now.

The China Chinese seems to be exporting everything.. from cheap EVs, to property inflation , and now exporting corruption to these countries to fast track passports 🤣🤣 .. that is - assuming if the issuing passports are real 🤣🤣

There were/are places in Thailand where the political signs put up prior to elections are only in Chinese. It might not be the case now, but I've seen it while riding along border roads up north...

Wife and I went for Aroma massgae the other day at our favorite shop .... ..  midway thru a chinese woman was in the shop..  yapping at 110db ..  I finally had enough and after telling the massuese to  "watch this" ..  I banged on the cubicle wall a few times and said be quiet....rather loudly. ( it worked and shut the woman up. )

I read/heard another report that the 3 months they advertised was the Processing time, not when you actually get the passports.

Longest 6 weeks of my life. 1986, University of Shanghai. No English was to be spoken to us after the orientation. Talk about motivation ... bathroom? Ask in Mandarin or tie it in a knot ... When I returned to the US, ethnic Chinese-American friends said I spoke with a Shiang hai accent! Wow! Now ... it is gone (you don't use it, you lose it).
