Must Read Its Happening - Law to Tax Overseas Income Now in Progress
Great. When the bar girl files her Thai tax return, she can indicate she received big money as a gift. Oh, wait. She never filed, despite TRD allegedly having access to all overseas remittances. Unless you are aware of bar girls filing taxes. Editorial note: for some reason we get a lot of comments in the Thai tax topics that are disconnected from the real world, particularly about TRD auditing capabilities. Thailand can't enforce helmet laws for motorcycles, let alone complicated tax laws. -

Restore lost Yellow Book
Pink ID has been lost too. I think I'll go tomorrow to the nearest amphoe first in Phuket Town, the police station is also nearby where I'll request a report. And if the situation looks favorable as in no need for other people to be involved, then I'll go to Thalang where YB was issued with police report, passport and old copy in hand. For a new YB the owner is a lovely Brit with Thai wife, I'm 90% sure they will help. -

Yes, in Europe this applies to professional sex workers who also have social insurance and can also deduct the costs of their profession, such as room rent, advertisements and lubricants, from their tax burden. But Thailand is not yet ready with legalization. Prostitution is still banned in Thailand and the activities are not recognized as professional job. Due to morale, it will probably take decades for Thailand to get there. That the TRD will put tax on illigal activities will not happen. -

Recommendations of a quality Slow Cooker
If you were cooking a batch of 4 average size portions you would only require 1 Oxo cube. The Thai Knorr stock cubes are considerably cheaper (any meat or veg flavour) and perfectly adequate. Add a bit of additional seasoning (not too much salt as stock cubes are naturally salty) ground pepper, mixed herbs etc. You can crumble/dissolve the stock cube into whatever liquid you will be adding to the pot. As you mentioned in a previous post, chicken or pork will work fine. You are better off with a slightly fatty cut of meat ie. chicken thighs or pork shoulder etc (as opposed to chicken breast or pork loin) as the leaner cuts can dry out during the cooking. Always best to brown the meat off first for added flavour. If you want a thicker gravy/sauce either dust the meat in plain flour before browning. Or just sprinkle a spoonful of flour over the meat and veggies before cooking, add the stock and give it all a stir. -

Splitting my time between Thailand & my originating country....
Feel free to discuss the merit of holding "covid time" against returning foreigners, here. The other topic can only be discussed openly in forums not adhering to the "Trusted News Initiative" (sic) guidelines. -

US Medicare - what do most expats do?
But.... a similar requirement to be a "U.S. resident" also applies to the Medicare Part B coverage that you have and have used, correct? Not geographically specific like Medicare Advantage plans, but general U.S. residency for Part B (technically) as opposed to being an "expat"? -

In my home country, bar girls do pay taxes, like everybody else who works. It doesn't matter at all whether the money they receive comes from abroad or not. If they receive a gift, they don't have to pay tax on it (no conditions like "customary" etc, as in Thailand - but the threshold is much lower than in Thailand) My tax advisor in my home country also has clients who are bar girls. -

To make it more spicy. Do not declare it as a gift, if the girl is not married with you. Declare it as a credit on your transfer slips. Credits are not income. Credits are not taxable. -

2 Trips / 2 Passports - Combine Re-entry permit with Visa Exempt?
I'm here on a retirement extension and have two trips this month. Will depart for trip 1 with a re-entry permit in passport A. Can I return from trip 1 and enter visa-exempt on passport B, leave on passport B and then return from trip 2 on Passport A with the re-entry permit? I'm guessing worst case is that VE might be declined and then will have to use the RE permit? It's not a big deal either way, just looking to save a little time and money. -

This bargirls thing is funny. May all lovers who send money to there country girls from abroad, should write on there transfer banking slips: Credit for sick buffalo. Or Credit for ill grandmother in hospital. Then it would not be taxable income. 😁 Easy. -

Why is Trump Really Running for Office Again?
That, and ego. He is easily prone to flattery; that's how he did business in daddy's firm. There was no expectaton to win in 2016. Trump's first cabinet actually was reasonable, if you were looking for technocrat appointees. The ego came out with the announcements coming from Sean Spicer, who we all feel sorry for. There was sneaking admiration for the Mooch. But he was manipulated by others far cleverer than him, eg soon-t0-be jailbird and grifter Steve Bannon. A malleable candidate; easy to persuade him to go for it if you tell him you look great, sir, with a tear in your eye. Kevin McCarthy has a lot to answer for, following his 2022 reconcialition with Trump. -

LTR Visa is Now available for Long Term Residency
So what are the latest thoughts on which, if any, tax benefits will remain for the LTR visa once the taxation of global income is introduced as evidently planned by the Thai government (see article two days ago in the newspaper which cannot be mentioned)? -

US Medicare - what do most expats do?
Yes that is what I do. And believe me that is fun compared to the family headaches that occupy most of my annual trips back....!- 1
