On August 19, at 10:30, Mr. Chaiwat Chuntiraphong, Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), joined the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, on a field visit to Phetchaburi Province. The purpose of the visit was to assess the progress in preparing for potential flooding and to inspect the readiness of disaster relief equipment to aid the affected population.

Mr. Chaiwat emphasised that heavy rainfall during the monsoon season has put many areas in Thailand at risk of flash floods, overflowing rivers, and landslides. Phetchaburi is one of the high-risk provinces. In response, Phetchaburi Province has strictly followed the orders of the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command Centre (DDPMC), establishing the 2024 Provincial Flood, Storm, and Landslide Prevention and Response Centre at the Provincial Office of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation in Phetchaburi.

The provincial authorities have integrated efforts with relevant agencies to monitor weather and water levels, manage water resources efficiently, and provide timely assistance to those affected by floods. The DDPM’s Regional Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Center 4 in Prachuap Khiri Khan has also ensured that disaster relief machinery and operational teams are on standby, ready to assist in the four provinces under its responsibility: Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Ratchaburi, and Samut Songkhram.

During this visit, the Ministry of Interior’s executive team reviewed the progress of the Phetchaburi River and Market Rehabilitation Project, received briefings on flood preparedness strategies, and observed demonstrations of disaster relief machinery in action. Mr. Chaiwat noted that the visit highlighted the dedication of the disaster response teams to ensuring public safety and showcased the operational capacity and efficiency of Thailand’s disaster relief equipment.

Don't forget to order the t-shirts and baseball caps for the photo op that's sure to follow any flooding.

Has the new cabinet been announced already?

No. Don't worry though, Thaksin will let everyone know when his daughter is ready to announce his decision.
