No matter how hard you try, you won't be able to pin the use of 'sunny uplands' on me within the context of Brexit. I'm not sure who got there first, but any one of Leadsom, Gove or Rees-Moog are among the front runners. Your second paragraph certainly has more than a ring of truth about it, but imo the divisions were neither as visible nor as manifest pre-2016 as they are now. I did not blame Brexit for these divisions. What I said was that the referendum brought them to the fore. Pre 2016, I would contend that following a general election, irrespective of who won, there was a general acceptable by all of 1) the result and 2) nothing much will change. That wasn't the case following the referendum. Some remainers refused to accept the result, and that many Brexiters expected radical change. Neither party got what they wanted and imo, as a result, the divisions within UK society have became more stark and visible. In short, we are more polarised than ever. I agree that openness and honesty are normally good things but, occasionally, things are better off being unsaid and untested. -

And exactly how much tax, as a percentage, of overseas income remitted to Thailand are they paying? If it’s not zero the they are probably fools or have poor advice. If they have Thai income they should be paying a maximum of 17% or once again are probably fools or have poor advice. there is the letter of the law and there is the way it is applied, you should be well aware that the 2 are different. Can the application change? Of course it can. Will it? Probably not. On the subject of gifts, talk to people who actually know the practice and the way it is applied. I know both and am confident enough that I will be able to defend my decisions should I ever be audited. NB I do not bet unless it has no risk. -

DTV and 5-year driver's license
Have a non-o based on retirement and live in Ubon. I used up my last re-entry stamp last week and am leaving for America next month. Debating going to Vientiane next week without a re-entry stamp which will cancel my Non-O. Then apply for a DTV. I go to sporting events (Marathons) around Thailand throughout the year and I'm guessing this will meet the requirements. If not I can always re-apply for a Non-O. The 500k savings is not an issue.
