On August 20, Vice Admiral Surasak Singkorawat, Commander of the First Naval Area Command, led a fleet consisting of HTMS Tachai, Patrol Vessel Tor 998, Type 1 Anti-Submarine Helicopter (ASW.1), and an Unmanned Aerial System (UAS Schiebel Camcopter S-100), to participate in the Rayong Oil Spill Exercise 2024 (ROSE '24). This exercise was organized by the Industrial Environment and Conservation Group (IESG) in collaboration with the Subcommittee on Oil Spill Prevention and Control in Rayong and the First Region Maritime National Interest Administration Center (MNAC1).

The exercise was a test of the new draft plan for handling oil and chemical spills. The scenario simulated a Tier 2 crude oil spill outside the port area, with the Department of Marine coordinating with MNAC1 to establish a command center. The Navy was requested to deploy ships, aircraft, and personnel to contain the oil spill as part of the plan.

This exercise aligns with the Royal Thai Navy's policy to enhance its capabilities in responding to maritime disasters. The goal is to ensure effective and timely operations in emergency situations, bolstering the security of marine resources and protecting the nation's maritime environment.

No, he was head of the investigation into the sinking. The commander of the ship resigned.
