The "citizens with boots on the ground", as you call them, are responding to a bunch of debunked social media reports and imagery, many spread on right-wing accounts, that have been shown to have nothing to do with Haitians in Springfield...including: --including an American-born woman elsewhere in Ohio who is being prosecuted for killing and attempting to eat a cat. and... a photo of a black man carrying a bird that has been shown to have been taken far away at a different Ohio city many weeks ago, and the person who took the photo has told news agencies that he has no idea who the man was carrying the bird and had no indication the man was Haitian. ...and a Facebook post about a supposed dead cat found in Springfield that was something like a third-hand hearsay report, and likewise, never substantiated as either true or having anything to do with Haitians. -

That is the way you make a deal. If you feel that he got a bad deal, then you have to accept that he is not the best at making deals. You cannot have it both ways. Personally, I do not think he got a bad deal; but he surely bombed at the debate. Not because of the deal but because he is who he is. So far, she has offered a new debate; he is the one walking away without even trying to make a deal. Understandable, I wouldn't want another clobbering either, if it was me. He may change his mind, though, when new polls show him behind in the swing states. -

Any advantages to retirement over marriage visa?
I have heard such stories from friendly offices. My experience with marriage-based was all day in the sticks - where, at least, they were polite. Submit and review - 2nd person reviews and questions you. This includes review of "how you met" questions every time, even when married for many years. Wait over lunch, return - then the top-ranking person reviews it all over again. Because not using an agent, the District office is furious that no envelope is included, and they seem terrified there might be a mistake. Required documents and pictures changed every year (district-office demand), so need an extra trip in-advance to see what is needed. At some offices like Pattaya, the IOs may be extremely rude, especially to your wife - may add "another document" multiple times / visits - having nothing to do with if you are "really married and living together." If going this route, bring all old passports, past applications, etc in a bag, as they always ask for something else not on the "official" list. My wife, especially, was delighted when I could finally apply for retirement. -

Baht becoming ridiculously strong
My home currency is the US$. My non-financial solution for all the ups-downs of the exchange rates is this. It was easy to remember (and calculate) when the dollar to baht exchange rate was near 30 during one of my pre retirement trips.. So, for many many years after that, up to today, I have used the 30:1 ratio for rough calculations for large purchases, and always come out ahead in what the actual USD cost was. When over 35 or 36...thats a major large transfer signal (last transfer in July at 36.5). This way I dont get worked up between the ups and down between the 31-35 exchange rate. This strategy might work for others (set your own bottom number that works for you) and it will save some heartache during the swings. -

Like I said before. The mayor, city council or even the GOVERNOR doesn’t know what really goes on in the dwellings of the Haitians. I’ll believe the citizens with boots on the ground vs politicians trapped in their offices. -

Are you "all in" in your relationship?
The most memorable thing my wife said to me early on in our relationship when it was more transactional on my part than emotional - was "open your heart". At the time I didn't know what that meant. I was a lost soul way back when thank god she found me and didn't let go. She literally saved my life. My biggest legacy that I hope to leave is her to be looked after and cared for when I'm gone and selfishly I hope I go first, I couldn't stand the pain of losing her - she is my best friend bar none. -

Bali was a paradise back in the 80's and 90's ... such a beautiful place. It is now a dump, that is solely for cheap tourists who go for a drink up. With Thailand's beautiful islands they could attract quality tourists ... at least keep away cheap mass tourism. But nope, they simply have done the opposite. Income from tourism is down, so the Thai solution is to get even more numbers in. The experience from tourists is awful. -

They would not debate him on his terms. So he complied to their terms. At least he engaged and didn’t walk away. Do you think Harris will comply to his terms if there was another debate? I think not. She knows the payback in a biased network and mods would be too much for her to handle. She’ll walk away. -

No. As has been posted in multiple news reports earlier in this thread, it's the Republican governor of Ohio, Springfield city officials and county officials there who all have said that thus far, they have no credible evidence or substantiated reports that support the animal claims that have been made by Trump and Vance. What there has been is a lot of spurious social media reports that, when tracked down and documented, have been shown to NOT have any connection to Haitians in Springfield. And, one citizens call that went to the county sheriff's communications center there claiming ducks were being taken from a park likewise was investigated and has remained unsubstantiated. That's a recap of the credible news reports that have been posted here, and what state, county and city officials there continue to report up through today. -

Advice me on car window tint
The AN search function is working much better since the forum upgrade, so I did a search on "window tint" and came up with a dozen or so threads, with probably 100 posts. Several stories from guys who blamed their accidents on dark tinted windshields, and other guys whose GFs blamed their accidents on dark windows. I believe them, since I actually removed the film from my windshield because I didn't feel safe driving at night. I may have been able to replace it with a lighter tint, but no added tint didn't bother me at all. The windshield and windows themselves had some tint to them, even without a film. I didn't stick with the search diligently enough to find any posts about any popo crackdowns, but I recall some from the past. I got to Thailand in 2011 so my personal memory only goes back that far... And my brain leaks when I sleep so I may have forgotten even more.
