Two young police officers narrowly escaped death after their pickup truck overturned due to slippery road conditions caused by heavy rain, at 18.00 on August 29.The incident occurred on the Taling Chan-Suphan Buri Road heading towards Bang Bua Thong, in Moo 7, Na Mai Subdistrict, Lat Lum Kaeo District, Pathum Thani Province.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Theerapong Nakwa, an investigator from Lat Lum Kaeo Police Station, received a report about the accident and immediately rushed to the scene along with emergency responders from the Por Teck Tung Foundation.

Upon arrival, they found an overturned Isuzu four-door pickup truck, which belonged to the Bang Pla Ma Police Station. The vehicle had crashed into a barrier and then collided with the fence of a local pallet shop. The pickup was severely damaged, with its roof crushed. Two officers were injured in the accident: Police Sergeant Major Natthapong Phongpun, 30, who sustained a forehead injury, and Police Sub-Lieutenant Itthiphon Jirotpakan, 30, who suffered a right elbow injury and neck pain. Both officers were transported to Lat Lum Kaeo Hospital for treatment.

Sergeant Major Natthapong recounted the incident, stating that he and Sub-Lieutenant Itthiphon were returning from Bangkok after delivering confiscated goods. They were traveling along Route 346 in Pathum Thani, intending to make a U-turn onto Route 340 to head back to Bang Pla Ma Police Station. Due to the rain, Natthapong was driving cautiously. However, as they reached the accident site, the vehicle suddenly spun out of control, hitting the barrier before flipping over and landing upside down.

"Fortunately, local residents rushed to help us out of the vehicle and called for emergency services," said Sergeant Major Natthapong. He believes that the protective amulet of Luang Por Niam from Wat Noi, which he carried in the truck, played a role in their miraculous survival.

Residents in the area expressed concern over the frequent accidents on this road, particularly during rainy conditions. They reported that vehicles often lose control on the slippery road surface, leading to injuries, fatalities, and property damage. The road, which has a polished surface, becomes especially dangerous when wet.

Not because slippery road conditions. The reason is driving too quick!

Not cautiously enough, as the result show otherwise.

No, it was not the amulet. That´s just folklore. The reason was either that they had seatbelts on or that the car was built to protect people.

Might be slippery road surface, but things like that you see when drive. Still it´s not the rain nor the road at fault. It´s the drivers that drive too fast in conditions that does not allow for that.

Wager their dash-cam wasn't "working" !

Isn't 'rushing' what caused the accident?

Just saying.  :whistling:

Driving cautiously... yeah okay.

Thank god the cops here don't get to drive high performance vehicles
