Appears to be another assassination attempt on Trump's life
Posts using derogatory and toxic nicknames or intentional misspelling of people’s names will be removed. If you don’t want your post to be removed, spell people’s names correctly, this applies to both sides of the political debate. -

Temporary Steel Bridge in Wang Thong Collapses as Sand Truck Attempts to Cross
I can see once again, the great experience and knowledge of Thai truck drivers. I child could see that bridge is not going to hold for a trailer truck loaded with sand. -

Poll: Do you want Ukraine to WIN in the Russia-Ukraine war (it's a binary choice)
Many westerners see white Russians and incorrectly think they have European values. They do not. An example is during WW2 when defeated Germans rushed to the west to be prisoners of the west instead of being prisoners of Russia (which meant indefinite gulag slavery and likely death). -

Appears to be another assassination attempt on Trump's life
How do you know this? I would guess the USSS do not publish the details of who they are guarding or how many agents. Am sure they have increased the numbers after the last attempt. -

Thailand issues four major announcements on new visa measures
I really can't see Revenue Clerks in Thailand trying to check bank accounts of foreigners in every country that's a part of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) that developed the "Standard for Automatic Exchange of Financial Account Information" (or "Common Reporting Standard" for short). Thailand isn't a member of the OECD yet (in progress as of mid-2024) and though they are a member of the Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes, they haven't signed on to the Common Reporting Standard so by rights they can't check foreign bank balances of people who are "tax resident" in Thailand. And then there's going to be the confusion (and constant arguments) about which income is "taxable" and which isn't and how they are going to deal with non-pension income that's already taxed in your home country (and interpreting the clauses of the different tax treaties between each country which are not only going to be different in languages but in the interpretation of terms and conditions). And right now, doing a tax return is "voluntary" and as far as I know, they don't have any way to verify who has or hasn't done a Return. Immigration and Revenue are two different departments and I doubt Immigration wants to start doing Revenue's job for them. Imagine if you are on a "year long" Visa or Extension and you "go home" or visit another country for a week and when you come back to Thailand (via airport or border crossing) and they want to see your tax returns before they'll let you back into the country. And imagine the line-ups at Immigration when you go to do an Extension or 90 day Report or any other business and they want to see your tax returns first. But remember, this isn't about the couple thousand "western expats" living here on their pensions or about a couple thousand "digital nomads" making miniscule income from the occasional "best 10 movies that never won an Oscar" or "Top 10 worst movies to win an Oscar" lists they make up once in awhile. China is a member of the OECD and has signed onto the Common Reporting Standard. And you can bet there are going to be a lot more Chinese "workers" and "expats" in Thailand soon than all the "Western expats" combined. Whenever Thailand changes something that affects foreigners, like Visa rules, condo ownership rules or tax rules, know that they are NOT thinking about the tiny percentage of "western" foreigners. They ARE thinking about the masses of Chinese workers and expats and businesses. That is the driving force behind these changes. And for people who only have pension income and there's a tax treaty between those countries that covers that income - it won't be an issue anyways. But I suspect there's going to be a lot of issues and a lot of changes in how they handle this over the next couple of years. -

Help me understand: Delegating devices to remain online when the grid goes down
It's nearly 400bht a month for a TOU meter, that's more than my existing monthly PEA bill (around 300bht). Battery charges from the solar cells, sure, in extended periods of bad weather the battery grabs some from the grid, and with all the rain my system may have needed 5 units this month ........ 20bht (ish). -

What’s the best area in Thailand for expats to settle for long-term living?
If you're a beach guy I'd look for a place where the water is clear most of the year. Pick a place slightly away from touristy but close enough for the convenience of food and shopping and Medical services. I can make it to Pattaya in 30 min by M 7 but then to the Malls could be another 30 min when traffic is bad. -

Poll: Do you want Ukraine to WIN in the Russia-Ukraine war (it's a binary choice)
Putin doesn't see Ukraine as a sovereign nation separate from Russia. His genocidal aim is to wipe out Ukrainian language, culture, and church and to murder all Ukrainians that do not accept being Russified but it's also OK for him if they flood Europe and destabilize it with a refugee crisis that they can't handle. Remaining Russified Ukrainians are good for slave cannon fodder for future imperial ambitions beyond Ukraine. Putin isn't crazy, but he is evil. -

Watch: Melania Trump Condemns FBI Mar-a-Lago Raid: ‘A Warning to All Americans’
From the Hur Report: Evidence supports the inference that when Mr. Biden said in 2017 that he had "just found all the classified stuff downstairs" in Virginia, he was referring to the same marked classified documents about Afghanistan that FBI agents found in 2022 in his Delaware garage. He came clean 5 years later, under duress. I wonder if the FBI went through Dr Jill's underwear drawers? -

Trump self pardon support
He floated the question around to his staff during his one and only term. AFAIK the question was never answered conclusively. Question - why would any INNOCENT person ever ask if he could pardon himself unless he knew he was guilty of something?
