Today, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) unveiled a groundbreaking initiative to rejuvenate the nation’s tourism sector with its “Charming Thailand: 5 Regions” event series. TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool announced that this campaign aims to spotlight Thailand’s cultural richness and modern attractions, projecting to draw over 147,000 visitors and generate upwards of 800 million baht in revenue.

Tourism, a cornerstone of Thailand's economy, has faced recent challenges, but TAT’s new campaign promises a resurgence. The series will span September, bringing immersive cultural experiences and free concerts featuring well-known artists to five key regions.

Visitors can look forward to engaging in “5 Must Do in Thailand” activities, including DIY art zones and interactive photo spots. Each region will host special events to display its unique charms:

1. **Southern Thailand’s Charming Khanom**: Nakhon Si Thammarat will host events from September 14-15 and 20-22 at Na Dan Beach, blending local charm with natural beauty.

2. **Northern Thailand’s HOP Chiang Mai Art and Music Festival**: Chiang Mai will welcome visitors from September 20-29 at Tha Phae Gate, showcasing vibrant arts and performances.

3. **Eastern Thailand’s Chon Buri International Music Festival in the Rain**: Pattaya will feature events from September 20-22 and 27-29 at Central Pattaya Beach, combining coastal allure with diverse music acts.

4. **Central Thailand’s The River of Time**: Kanchanaburi will host from September 22-30 at the Kanchanaburi Paper Factory, offering a historical journey through local crafts.

5. **Northeastern Thailand’s Isaan Muan Suen**: Khon Kaen will highlight regional culture from September 25-29 at Bus Terminal 3, with activities designed to engage and entertain.

Thapanee expressed confidence that these events will not only attract visitors from near and far but also substantially boost local economies. By focusing on cultural “soft power,” TAT seeks to showcase Thailand’s diverse and rich heritage, appealing to a wide audience and ensuring a thriving tourism sector.

Who are these people, and why do they have so much time on their hands?

And why don't they know anything about tourism?

Because it's not what you know but who you know...

As usual in Thailand the least qualified get the top jobs, while fully qualified people who won't pay bribes, don't.

For people living in Chiang Mai is it just me or have the number of Farangs increased dramatically in the last 3-5 years? I never used to see tourists or expats ever in the far northern part of the city but now I'm seeing them multiple times on a daily basis.

I don't go into the city anymore but it could be a totally overrun tourist trap is some areas for all I know. Does't feel like the city is under touristed at all.

When are they going to understand that many of the Thai citizens are running out of money and can’t afford to keep going to all of these events. It’s no wonder that the debt is so high.

TAT appears to be living in dreamland, or a drug altered state of mind.

Does TAT have any comprehension of what is happening locally/globally with respect to economic/financial situations?

TAT appears to be dreaming up incomprehensible programmes to justify their useless existence.

Abolish TAT, and use the savings to help those Thais in real need.

Therein lies the answer to you question.

It seems like every couple of days someone dreams up a new idea to restore/revitalise tourism.

Have any of their previous hairbrained ideas worked?

I'd think those coming to Thailand would do their own research or have an idea on what they want to do prior.

Glossy brochures ain't gonna change that a lot.

Having lived near Khon Kaen for several years, there are far better, more attractive and much more central locations than "Bus Terminal 3" which is sited well out of town!!

KK, bus station #3.  What a joke.

September 24, 2024
Here is the monthly report of foreign tourists traveling to Thailand from January to August 2024
The total number of entries therefore reaches 23,567,850
It is unlikely that the 2019 record, the tourist attendance of welcoming 39.8 million foreign visitors
will be reached
Contrary to what some sites (French-speaking) say which would be well advised to do like me to retrieve the monthly report of the Thai Ministry of Tourism and Sports
I remind you here that the Famous TAT agency cited by many is only a tourist promotion agency it therefore does not do the Calculations, Statistics, Forecasts and reports of Thai Tourism which belongs to the economic division of the Ministry of Tourism (MOT)
Thailand is now faced with its Thai Baht which is far too strong and will clearly penalize the international tourist attendance at the end of the year despite the new provisions put in place for visa exemptions extended to 2 months
1 EURO = 36,580 THB
1 USD = 32,702 THB
Thailand's domestic tourism is never mentioned by our good farangs while according to the ratios of the economic share of the GDP which weighs for the whole 21% including 12% for internal national tourism
Certainly the latter does not bring in currency but also participates in the tourist economy of the country
I add the Tourism Income Report by province June 2024 and the number of visitors per province June 2024
As you can see in the economic division of Tourism they are certainly not manchos... 😉Peut être une image de plan et textePeut être une image de textePeut être une image de textePeut être une image de texte
