Bhumjaithai Party Opposes Casinos in Entertainment Complexes

In a notable stance, the Bhumjaithai Party has declared its opposition to including casinos in Thailand’s future entertainment complexes. This announcement came at the end of a two-day parliamentary debate on the Pheu Thai-led coalition government’s policy statement, delivered by Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra.

 

Mr. Chaichanok Chidchob, the party’s secretary general and son of Bhumjaithai’s de facto leader Newin Chidchob, articulated the party’s position.

 

While Bhumjaithai supports the development of mega entertainment complexes to boost tourism, they firmly reject the presence of casinos within these ventures. Their primary concern is ensuring that the benefits from these projects are equally distributed among Thai citizens.

As the second largest partner in the coalition government, Bhumjaithai also highlighted their stance on tackling the underground lottery operations.

 

They advocate for a system where the benefits would serve the nation and its people, rather than being monopolised by specific groups, whether domestic or foreign. The party insists on fairness and appropriate regulatory methods to manage these gambling activities.

 

Chaichanok acknowledged the complexity and duration required to implement many of the policies discussed. He noted that while some initiatives might be accomplished within the current term, others could span several terms.

 

Additionally, Chaichanok addressed the challenges the public faces in generating income, particularly through the sale of electricity back to utilities, reported Thai Newsroom.

 

Currently, householders with rooftop solar panels can sell excess electricity on a net billing basis at 2.20 baht per unit, which is lower than the rates utilities charge their customers. The Bhumjaithai Party supports the introduction of a net metering scheme, which would allow for the sale of electricity at the same rate utilities charge, thereby providing fairer opportunities for citizens.

 

The party's announcement has sparked considerable discussion, underscoring the complexities and varied opinions surrounding Thailand’s developmental policies.

It is about time someone is saying what a bad idea this will be for the Average Thais.. Gambling in Thailand is a serious problem. So many lose everything and then borrow on things and unable to repay. Usually using loan sharks to do it.

Kudos to the BJP.  Although gambling may generate government revenue, it simultaneously creates misery, family strife, debt and destruction.

Who picks up the pieces of the destroyed lives it leaves in it's wake?

This concern will  rapidly evapourate when they are included on the distribution list.

even if you change that to Baht instead of dollars that is a huge aMOUNT

You are right, the undergro8nd lottery is almost a part of Thai tradition, a lot of money can change hand, it will always be they 

They have been talk about the government sell 2 and 3 numbered tickets, like the underground lottery does, one was not so long ago, but it has gone all quite again, it has been said there are some big players in the underground lottery, and they do not want they toes treading on, and are not for it, so nothing will happen.

Casinos and numbers lottery though gambling  aren’t the same thing and has different target audience.

Well done Anutin. I have despised you ever since your rant about foreigners and masks in the COVID era. You were wrong about weed, sorry. But you are right about gambling. It is a curse on poor people, and has no place in Thailand. Glamourising it by making such a big issue and sticking casinos in 'entertainment complexes' is a big mistake that will add to human misery in Thailand.
