The first thing that struck me on my initial visit to Pattaya in the early 90's was the pristine condition of the drainage pies and the area adjacent to them . I am horrified that such an outstanding feature has now been disrespectfully soiled,

Same effect in most countries those viewed as native to country get far more sympathy than those viewed as alien/foreign.  Note treatment of asylum seekers, immigrants & refugees by redtop media/internet media in UK.

You are joking right ?    immigrants are treated as vip's in the uk    it native brits who have become second class citizens in their own country.

Finally, at the very end of the article, their real concern comes out. They couldn't give a rat's a** about the woman, just the reputation of the world class family friendly tourist destination.🤮

of coarse they couldn't  ... that's thais.

The story is a good illustration of why governments have never won a "war on drugs" anywhere in the world. When people with mental health issues are left to live on the streets, one cannot be surprised if they want to deaden the pain.

Soi Buokaew is a sewer. It's dirty, and it smells, and I won't blame the poor woman for it. I can't take my 17-year-old near it. He hates the hookers with 70-year-old men, and he's right; it stinks.

2nd class? It's further down the totem pole.

Addicts, the abused, and the mentally ill know that their best changes for survival are in those places where their behavior is least disturbing to those around them (bad begets bad). If nothing else, this does not degrade Pattaya, but simply confirms facts #chithole

So great concern for the potentially tarnished image of  Pattaya,  but little concern for a very vulnerable , homeless woman who obviously has serious issues.

Apparently some passers by offered her money , but what did the "local reporters" do other than stand and stare whilst taking photos of her on their mobile phones?

What image do the authorities think Pattaya has globally ?   and more importantly, how have they  actually arrived at that conclusion?

Soi Hong Nan as it is referred to by many, is a toilet and you see people cooking over top of a grey water drain and vent with the vent directly under the food being prepared.  It should be closed.

But I have to ask, why does anybody care about the image of one of the largest “reasonably safe” brothels in the world?  I have been here since 1997 and I came for exactly that reason alone - not for cheap food or warm sunshine.  Vancouver is and was too expensive for girls.

I came in 1995  for exactly the same reason,  I think back in those days everybody came for the same reason, and  , people were a bit less pretentious.  Thailand was a lot more fun back then and nobody even mentioned the words "family resort" it was sin city simple as that and I loved it.

Sadly the world is full of puritans and kill joys,  they don't like to see people having fun , some have tried their best to have it all stopped and the "family resort " was their intended aim,   but they never quite managed to achieve their intentions so what's  left is a bit of a sad hybrid , there maybe a few water parks and other stuff for families to do but there is still a lot of mongering going on, but its far from ideal and a poor imitation of what it used to be.   It puts me in mind of "soft porn" narrow minded people don't like to watch it  and neither do those who like hard core porn

I haven't been there (properly) for a long time must be 20+ years but I did spend a couple of days there with the missis a couple of years before the covid scam, I was not very impressed, the bar girls all seemed to have got a bit fatter and more ugly,  and the place just did not have the same vibe it used to have ,

I doubt I will ever go there again,  and I feel a bit sorry for those who never really experienced it back in its heyday
