Emergency services in Sisaket were alerted at 07.30 on September 20, to an incident involving a school bus that overturned on the road between Ban Phon Yang and Ban Nong Phai in Phon Yang Subdistrict, Wang Hin District. The accident left 20 students injured.

Rescue teams quickly arrived at the scene, where they found a yellow six-wheeled school bus, license plate Sisaket, overturned on the roadside. The injured students from Wat Luang Wittaya School, included both novice monks and regular students. Emergency personnel administered first aid at the scene before transferring the injured to Wang Hin Hospital for further treatment.

The bus driver, Mr. Chaiwat Khumkham, 50, explained that he had been picking up students from villages along the route to take them to school in downtown Sisaket. The road between Ban Phon Yang and Ban Nong Phai is narrow and difficult to navigate, especially when passing other vehicles. As the bus approached a curve, another vehicle came from the opposite direction. In an attempt to avoid a collision, Mr. Chaiwat steered sharply to the left, causing the rear wheels to slip off the road due to the lack of a shoulder. The bus then lost control and overturned, resulting in multiple injuries among the students.

The bus was reportedly carrying over 60 students at the time of the accident. Some parents, upon hearing the news, rushed to the scene to take their children home, deciding not to send them to school for the rest of the day due to the trauma.

The investigation of the incident is ongoing.

i wonder, was there really an other vehicle  ...

it seems like clear sight for at least 100 m, no need to react sharply with a bus on this narrow street. no wheel tracks in the tall grass either ...

According to the photo,  the busdriver could not see more than 50 meters before the curve. And if you know how they take right hand turns in Thailand could be an explanation why the busdriver ended up where he was.

you are right about this "the busdriver could not see more than 50 meters before the curve" ...  but as a bus driver, he's sitting in a higher position, so he should definitely be able to see more than just to the curve (see pic) ... never mind, TIT

Just another useless Thai bus driver, who turned the steering Sharply to the left, on or approaching a bend, and it sounds like it was a regular route for him, no doubt going to fast for the road conditions.

Many Thais seem to enjoy driving in a dangerous manner.  They seem to find it fun.  You see it a lot on the road where people "only just make it" and if someone braked or swerved when they made their manoeuvre it would cause and accident.  Then, fairly regularly, some don't make it.

And you are the expert who has been to the area where the accident happened?

Or are you another drunk bar stool expert about everything?

The latter more than likely.

Lack of concern for children here is appalling. I see this daily where the buses are overcrowded and many students actually sit on top of the buses. This is prime example of the lack of concern for life here. If it's going to happen it will is the thinking, instead of doing things to ward off possible accidents, like spending money on better buses, better trained bus drivers, enforcement of laws already on the books, wearing helmets, not allowing children under 15 to drive without a license, not having more than two on a scooter and more.

Just about to post something similar.....we are on the main drag for the school buses from the villages......the roof of the bus often has kids (boys) sat on the roof or hanging off the back step....criminal.

If Somchai the driver is on his daily/regular route, he should know the hazards of the road.

If Somchai the driver is new to this route, he should drive with extra caution.

It might not be his decision or fault that he's transporting 60 young lives, but he's the one holding the steering wheel and they were his feet on the pedals.
