A 64-year-old man was brutally stabbed to death on September 25, in Surat Thani following an altercation with a neighbour over a longstanding dispute. The victim, identified as Mr. Ratphon (last name withheld), was found dead at the scene with 27 stab wounds inflicted by a fruit knife. The incident occurred in front of a house in Tha Chang District, Surat Thani Province, at around 21:30.

Police from Tha Chang Police Station were called to investigate the scene. The location was a two-story house where officers discovered two empty bottles of liquor, several soda bottles, and drinking glasses on a wooden table. Nearby, under the rear wheel of a white Toyota pickup truck, the lifeless body of Mr. Ratphon was found with a yellow-handled fruit knife lodged in his chest.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the assailant, Mr. Chalermphon (last name withheld), 53, had fled the scene after the stabbing. Witnesses reported that the two men had a history of conflict over a car crash. Attempts to resolve the matter failed, leading to continued tension between them.

Ms. Sunet (last name withheld), 73, a neighbour , stated that both men lived alone and frequently drank alcohol. On the night of the incident, Mr. Chalermphon had been drinking with friends outside his house, while Mr. Ratphon, who was known for heavy drinking, was at home. The exact cause of the confrontation remains unclear, as Ms. Sunet had already gone to bed.

CCTV footage from a nearby house captured Mr. Ratphon parking his Mazda pickup truck at 21:22 and entering his home briefly before returning outside. The footage then cut off, but at 21:26, Mr. Ratphon’s body was seen lying next to the vehicle, with a figure running into the alley.

According to police interviews, the altercation escalated after Mr. Ratphon retrieved a machete from the back of his truck and attacked Mr. Chalermphon. In self-defense, Mr. Chalermphon allegedly used a fruit knife to stab Mr. Ratphon multiple times, resulting in his death. Mr. Chalermphon was also injured, sustaining a serious wound, which almost severed his arm, and was taken to Tha Chang Hospital by a friend. Police later arrested him and are pursuing charges.

The investigation is ongoing.

Give him a year for every stab wound.

For self-defence? If I was attacked with a machete, I would certainly defend myself with whatever was available.

Likely the account is true as an assailant would not use a fruit knife.

27 stab wounds in not self defence

stabbing someone 27 times shows an angry and vicious attacker.

lock him up for 3 years ....  because that's all he'll get.

He might also get a stab in the dark in jail.😀
