A fire broke out at 15.30 on September 29, in the candle storage facility of Wat Chaeng, located in Nai Mueang Subdistrict, Mueang District, Ubon Ratchathani Province. Fire trucks from Ubon Ratchathani City Municipality were dispatched to the scene to control the blaze.

The fire engulfed the large storage facility, which housed intricately molded candles used for the Buddhist Lent Candle Festival. Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the flames, taking about 60 minutes to bring the fire under control.

The fire was prevented from spreading or damaging any of the near neighbouring buildings, but unfortunately, all the stored candles were completely destroyed, leaving only parts of the steel frames of the collapsed building structure

According to a resident monk, prior to the fire, the temple had hired workers to dismantle the large molded candles to store them for next year’s candle festival competition. While workers were using an electric grinder to remove parts of the candle’s structure, sparks ignited the fire, causing it to spread rapidly. The intense heat melted the candles beyond recovery.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. However, the estimated damage to the building and candles is over 1 million baht.

Pictures and videos from responders.

I guess the "hot works" safety plan submitted before work was carried out went un-read?

What's a safety plan?

The risk assessment plan that usually takes place before work is carried out...

Thailand will evolve one day.

That was sarcasm based on seeing how this country operates in many areas. And yes, I also hope country would evolve in safety ... one day, in not too distant future.
