Warrant issued for Pheu Thai MP in Tak Bai massacre case

The Narathiwat Provincial Court has issued a warrant for the arrest of Gen Pisan Wattanawongkiri, a Pheu Thai MP and former commander of the 4th Army Region, to stand trial on charges related to the Tak Bai massacre about two decades ago.

 

According to the Cross Cultural Foundation, the court issued the warrant on Tuesday, after the lawyer for the families of the massacre victims asked the court to have him apprehended on a suspicion that Gen Pisan may try to flee the country.

Last month, the court issued warrants for the arrests of six other defendants, after they refused to show up for trial.

Justice has been  slow in Thailand for victims and families of this crime. 

To have an inquiry and make arrests two decades after the killing  of innocent people demonstrates the lack of political will to make politicians and the Army accountable in this country.

No Tak Bai massacre was in 2004, Taksin was Prime Minister at the time, expressing regret for the deaths but insisting there had been no wrongdoing by military personnel.

It is a common scenario for morons such as these, or worse to flee to other countries, when the heat builds up. What's beyond belief is how many countries have open arms for these scums to come in freely, while genuine tourists are barred. It is international. If you have the money, ALL doors are open.

His claim was that the guns were fired into the air, and the bullets fell down to earth and killed some demonstrators.

I find it quite interesting that this case is being revived at this time.  Oh no, does that poor old billionaire have to leave the country of his birth again?

Why make an announcement that a warrant has been issued if there is a thought he might flee the country?
