I am quite confident any sentence ending in "it's a well-known fact" is utter bullsh!t.

Not wanting to bring politics into it but isn't a well known American who is running for president use that saying?

  "It's a well known fact"

Yes of course everyone knows they eating our cats!

Aussies may not have a cuisine named after them but they do have some bloody good down to earth tucker.  Great red wine too.

The only people who want Vegemite are Australians and so they have to import in relatively low quantities and this pushes the price up.

Worse than the bills, they could actually force you to eat Vegemite.

I live on Pad kapao, Som Tam and Laab Moo. It is cheap as chips and tastes way better than Vegemite.

My gripe for today.

I understand there are shipping costs and tax, but how does a A$4.20 jar of vegemite cost nearly $12 (260 baht) in Thailand? If Australia imposed those kind of markups on Thai products I doubt they'd be able to sell a kilo of rice.

i agree I've seen imported baked beans at $10 a tin, if we did this to Thai products they would not be able to export them.

Its just greed, like raising the value of  the Bhat for high season, pure greed.

How would Australians force you to eat Vegemite, and why would they want to?

I mostly live on what I or my GF cooks, street food can be a bit of a lottery.

If you are on the pension and don't own a home in Australia you can get accommodation for an amount deducted from the pension and most other costs for free. Helped some family find a pretty nice home. Some not so nice to be fair.

But if you own a home the Govt will take it off you if  you go into aged care, they will gradually get it from you, if you live long time in care your kids will get nothing , but if you don't own your home they give you care for free,  hence setting up a family trust early can prevent this.

Cream of Wheat
US - $4.50 / box
Thailand $17 / box at today's exchange rate

It makes no sense at all. I don't know why it is even stocked.  Obviously someone pays 550 THB for a box of Cream of Wheat, but it sure the hell ain't me.  It's insane.

Why doesn't the US reciprocate?  If you haven't noticed, the US doesn't give a s**t about its citizens, especially those living aboard.  If they can't even take care of North Carolina flood victims they definitely ain't paying attention to the obscene Thai tariffs on US and EU goods.

I just checked on Shopee.
A box of Cream of Wheat is selling for between 599 to 920 / box.
That's $18.50 to $28.30 for a box of hot cereal that costs $4.50 in the US.
Amazing Thailand!

You have to be careful as you may well know - gifting the house to an individual or trust , or relinquishing control of a trust if one is set up already, could have implications. Thus your comment about doing it a long time before.

Don't expect logic.....a large draft beer and a woman can be had for a few dollars in Thailand, how much in Sydney?

Yes but if you export that woman to any where in the west local rates apply is this because of import duty 🤔

From your posts, I'd say you are quite used to circular arguments.

Nothing circular about going for the most money from a product.

Australian beef producers are no different.

Please understand

Top End beef is exported from Darwin, Broome and Wyndham. It's close to Asian markets. It has to compete with Argentinian and US producers.

OTOH, beef from Gippsland is only exported in limited quantities, due to local demand and the added cost of shipping.

Take a look at where Melbourne and Darwin are on a map of Australia, relative to Asia. Maybe then you will understand.

I used to buy best quality beef from cootamundre NSW .

The beef was excellent yet it was export quality being sold under the table. Destination was meant to be Japan
