Where to buy USD

Featured Replies

Morning all

I have a couple of short trips planned in the near future and both are to countries where the USD is preferred.

Is there anywhere on the island offering a good exchange rate for buying USD?

I am not looking for a huge amount - 1,000 USD will be more than enough.

Ideas welcomed thank you. :wai:

There is no SuperRich that I know of on the island and I will be in transit, not airside in Bangkok.

So yes, I have to ask.

TBH, my biggest concern is the shortest queue.  I'm amazed at the long queues at the local Super Rich, when I can walk into a nearby no-name exchange with no queue and the same (or better) rate.

Being in the Samui section, I can't help with local knowledge.  Good topic, though.

I used the yellow bank in Nathon last time I needed a chunk of USD. I think I had to wait a day, but the rate was decent. I would say any bank with the best rate on the screen, can get you USD within a day or 2.

Thanks for that.

I went to Bank of Ayudhaya at Central Festival today.

Apart from the usual long wait (7 staff and only me in the queue!) I managed to get the USD there and then.

Not a great rate (buying at 33.8) but probably better than the airport.

If you have time at Suvarnabhumi airport there are fairly good exchange boots at the lowest level just before the train entry. I always buy AUD there.

Otherwise the green exchange office in central festival on the second floor opposite the bank offices.

Thanks, but I am in transit at Bangkok Airport.

It will be straight to the next check in desk.
