Bangkok Prepares for Flooding as River Levels Rise Concern

Riverside communities in and around Bangkok are bracing for potential flooding due to high tides and increased water discharge. The Royal Irrigation Department has announced that water released through the Chao Phraya dam in Chainat province has been ramped up to 1,550 cubic metres per second. This urgent measure follows recent heavy rainfall, which necessitates easing pressure on the dam.

The increased discharge will cause the water levels in the Pongpeng Canal, Bang Ban Canal, and Noi River to rise by up to 20 centimetres. Combined with high tides, there is a risk of flooding in areas of Bangkok without flood walls and in neighbouring provinces like Samut Prakan, Nonthaburi, and Pathum Thani.

Adding to the concerns, the Meteorological Department has advised that tropical storm Trami is on course to move across Luzon in the Philippines before potentially impacting Vietnam and Thailand’s north-eastern region this weekend. Residents in vulnerable areas are being urged to stay alert and take necessary precautions.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have advised residents to prepare for possible flooding from now until Friday, ensuring safety measures are in place to safeguard people and properties.

Someone built a dirty big Airport on the run off area, water has so run off somewhere

Yeah, if only we were all still crammed into ancient Don Muaeng then riverside communities would be safe!
