According to the 30% of wowsers you must be having a lot of accidents and killing people.

Yeah I know, its all a joke until you hit someone or kill them.  In the meantime you bitch and moan about how bad thai drivers are. I guess this makes you on par with them right ? Its nice to fit in isn't it?

So I will take that whataboutism essay as either a 2 or 3.

Even if you could not bring yourself to admit it.

Hard to follow to be honest, I couldn’t really figure what your point was.

Riding a motorbike is more difficult because you need balance as well. A basic simple point. Alcohol affects balance.

And if I have a minor collision (driving slowly as I do) it will result in minor damage to the car, I will be uninjured. Whereas even minor collisions on a bike can result in death like we saw with the Belgium man yesterday. If he had of been in a car it is highly unlikely he would be dead today. Which is another simple point.

You convenient forget about the roadside stand with people you can mow down or the pedestrian that you drive over. Fits right in with a lack of critical and spatial thinking that the thais seem to lack. Seems you've joined their club

Yeah right. As I said you fit right in.

Never said I don't like them. You're the one acting a fool like you're entitled.  Its people like you that give thais the license to consider foreigners as low class and the sad fact is its hard to argue against it

We are low class.

You are dreaming if you think you are upper class. Lardida.

@richard_smith237 This time you made far too long and over complicated. Everything does not have to be perfect. 😉

It was just a long winded rant to avoid the reality, avoid answering the question and to suit his narrative.

I'll have a 330ml can of beer or two and drive or ride....     I won't have more than that.

There isn't really a place in the poll for that....

But, MalolmB may be right - there are perhaps a lot more out there who think nothing of driving durnk, and by driving drunk I mean over the legal limit.

Two can's of beer will / should not put me over the limit...

My narrative is: IF someone knowingly drives while over the drink driving limit they are likely to be impaired - and that can have consequences.

My narrative is: IF someone has 5 or 6 beers and drives, there is little doubt that they are impaired and have a greater chance of being involved in an incident that impacts other innocent people.

My narrative is: trying to normalise this behavior is the remit of ayholes.

IF MalcolmB - all you are doing is having two beers in an hour and driving home, its unlikely you are over the limit or impaired... If however, you are having 6 or 7 beers over a couple of hours, you are drunk and impaired - and no amount of 'careful driving' will change that fact.

So you are admiting you 'could' have a minor collision (driving slowly as you do) and it will result in minor damage to your car...   But what about the pedestrian or motorcyclist you hit ???

... The collision may seem minor to you, but not to them.....   Thats why you are selfish, you have not considered the others around you who may be impacted by your drunk driving.

Post a poll with better options if you want more realistic and balanced results....

I think the silent majority have stated their point well enough.
Results are in line with what I expected.

Because you tailored the poll - and didn't leave an option for...

... having one or two drinks and remaining within the DUI limit and drive.

So there was no option for the many who may have a beer or two and drive.

Unless you carry a breathalyzer around you would can not know if you are over or not.

You can BS others, but don’t BS yourself.

Its a valid point - Do you think two cans of beer over an place you over the legal limit to drive ?

Its an irrelevant point if you are having 4 beers as there is a greater certainty that someone will be over the limit.

We used to get the Police Turning up to the Bars with breathalysers and we'd have a go....

I've also tried the 'gadget' breathalyser, but doubt how accurate they are (about +/- 10% error I'd guess)...

All fairly moot if someone is driving after 4 or 6 beers consumed over a couple of hours - they are drunk over the limit and impaired.

If a normal size male has had just 2 beer (330ml cans of Singha for example) its very unlikely they are over the legal limit or impaired.

I think another interesting topic would be: Under which condition would you still drive if you would be sure the police wouldn't fine you.

It seems many here wouldn't drive drunk because they don't want to pay or get arrested.

How many would drink and drive if they knew that won't happen?

A good point...

I've friends who can resolve these issues very simply....  (Police guys)...

They've helped on a few occasions when a friend was over the limit and got caught.

The joke is that I never ask them for help, they ask why I don't drink & drive, they can help if I have an issue...

They don't get the point... its the Police I'm bothered about - its hurting someone cos I was an idiot and drove drunk that bothers me (no matter how carefully I thought I may drive).

This is as dumb as the seatbelt or helmet argument - never used it, never needed it...

The cognitive disconnect highlights a very simplistic stupidity.

According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO) and other agencies:

Global Statistics: It's estimated that around 20-30% of all road traffic deaths worldwide involve alcohol. This varies significantly by region; in some areas, alcohol involvement may reach or exceed 50% of road fatalities.

Annual Estimates: Globally, about 1.35 million people die each year due to road accidents.

This means 270,000 to 405,000 deaths can be linked to drink-driving annually.

Non-Fatal Injuries: The number of injuries related to alcohol-impaired driving is even higher.

For every death, there are several injuries and instances of long-term disability.

Globally, road accidents lead to around 50 million injuries annually, with a notable proportion related to alcohol use.

Regional Variations: Countries with strict drink-driving laws and effective enforcement tend to have lower alcohol-related accident rates. In contrast, regions with limited law enforcement and higher alcohol consumption rates see significantly higher numbers.

So... to answer your dumbed down, over simplified and idiotic response...

There are between 270,000 to 405,000 names that could be mentioned to answer your question... those are just deaths... a lot more maimed.

Your implication that because someone has not yet had a drink driving related accident means its safe, is simply moronic and outrageously deluded to the point of sheer idiocy.

Fortunately, most Thai people have an acute sense of class and can gauge it instantly, just as anyone with insight and discernment can.

Your own words here painfully illustrate why you believe Thais perceive you as low class. Without even meeting you, it’s evident from your comments alone.

So, don’t drag others into your mire with the use of “we”. There are many contributors here who demonstrate a level of class far above the standards you exemplify.

It isn’t safe in my opinion.

I agree and it's not just you drink riding, probably 50% of the car drivers late at night are totally wasted. They are the ones that will kill you.

Are you claiming now to be upper class Richard?

Good luck with that.

Self deluded hi-so wannabe.

i am able to see the reality that I am not upper class along with 95% of other Brits and Thais.
So I will just drink beer and have fun with them.

While you can hang out with your imaginary friends.

Now get back to work. You need the money.

Speed is the top killer.

You are obviously a light drinker if you get drunk after 4 beers.
A lightweight.

Most sessions I drink 10- 12, and sometimes drink about 18 if a big night.

It is proven that women get drunk with drinking less than men. It is a scientific fact. The breathalyzer bar is set at the lowest point, which would be a 45kg light drinking woman.
You seem to conveniently forget this fact.

Hypocrite of the year award goes to Richard.

Nags people on line about having a couple of drinks but uses his police friends to get his drunk driving mates off.

Thailands roads are dangerous enough without alcohol. I would do it if i were old and had nothing to lose

Harden up snowflake.

If you drive sensibly on high alert you can avoid the other bad drivers.

When I first got my license my grandmother bought be an advanced driving course.
If you know what you are doing and how to handle a car properly then you can avoid 99% of accidents.
