I've witnessed the same thing with close friends, hence the seemingly harsh statement.  This young man's death is now a "tragedy" instead of a "thank God it's finally over".

The tragedies are at an end, finally it is ended, is a better 'epitaph'.

At the service for my youngest son, to hear kind words and remembering all those happy times could not be heard.

The majority of drug addicts pass alone in a room.

I am not sure that I would classify the hotel as being particularly swanky.

One of the closest swanky hotels to here might be the Peninsula in Hong Kong.

Maybe he should have chosen better hotel.

With a better hotel, a really classy hotel, he might not have felt so depressed as to resort to drug taking.

And, if no drugs, then he might still be alive.

Just one little thing can be the difference between two opposite outcomes.

I would never take drugs at the Peninsula, or example.

could have these guys been better managed?

Fair observation. I have the impression that there is no management of these kids. It is more like promotion and manipulation. The promoters see the fighters as a commodity. They are used and when injured or in need of guidance are discarded.

Some training clubs offer mentorship, but it is hit and miss.

The foreign fighters come to train and buy the badge of being able to say they trained in Thailand. They often are not the best quality fighters, both physically and mentally. And they typically don't have managers.

It is very different from the  experience offered  in places like South Korea, UK, USA etc. where the kids are trained, and guided and subject to drug testing,

"swanky" "lavish" "resort"

It's hard to digest this nonsense.

During high times it was a 90% Chinese tour group hotel.

Stinky buses with running motor on the parking space. Endless whistle blowing braindead guards.

Once was unlucky to have a balcony facing this place.

The report here was 2 completely different stories, a load of rubbish ? Was one of them in a coma on the bed next to the dead boy ? Or was he so drunk he couldn’t explain what happened?  And didn’t look like a swanky hotel at all.

Where did all this reporting come from ?

Ketamine is widely used by gay men to enhance the sexual experience.  It also relaxes the anal sphincter.

Didn't need to know that but acknowledge your superior knowledge and experiences.

Sounds like something a ****ing drug dealer (or junky) would say to try and justify their own actions

Or a big pharma rep and the guy in the white coat with a stethoscope around his neck.

Nasty, nasty people on here! A kid has died another in serious danger. The pain and distress his family must be feeling. A parents worst nightmare, regardless of how he died. Deepest sympathy to his family. P.S. To all the scum on here, get a life! Such really nasty pathetic animals.....

All competing to be the sharpest wit on here but for the vast majority an old saying from Dad stands out. "If wit was shiit you'd be constipated.

Seeing your kid grow up to be a worthless junkie is worse. Makes a parent wish they'd never had that child in the first place. All the good memories are driven out by the sleepless nights and endless lies/manipulation.

I simply don't care what happens to them.  As professional athletes in a relatively dangerous contact sport, they let themselves down and everyone  around them. IMHO youth cannot be used as an excuse.

We can all sleep better now that we have your opinion on it .

That would be me. I usually top out at around 700 baht for perfectly comfortable guest houses. All the more money left for better things.

One mans perfectly comfortable is another mans <deleted>hole and many have plenty enough money that skimping on the hotel room is an unnecessary "hardship"

I know a few people who'd consider a   1,000 Baht a night tariff at the upper end of their budget.

That doesn't make it a luxury hotel though.
