2025 stock favorites
They may "never" be losers, but depending on the location and other factors, they can both stagnate or even drop in value for years. I'm sure you've seen that. Of course, stocks can do that too, but they sure are easier to dump at a moment's notice. I'm 73, and unless I somehow decide to return to the USA, I don't need a place there to live. I've thought about it, but spending even a few minutes looking at home prices there cures me of that idea. Property taxes can also be a big factor, as can homeowner's insurance. And any house will require maintenance. I'ver been there and done that. I could do it again, but for what reason? So, unless there's a massive real estate crash and I see some real opportunities, I'm probably out of that country for the duration. -

Taliban Enforces Window Ban to Shield Women from Public View
I understand they are actually Afghans that went to Pakistan when the Russians occupied the country and were indoctrinated there. As for the OP, entirely expected given the taliban being what they are, and it's going to get worse for Afghan women IMO. No western country is going to invade again to support them, and the last time showed how wrong the west was to even try. A waste of lives and treasure for nothing. They just gave the women of Afghanistan false hope. -

Steve Bannon Clashes with Elon Musk: "We’re Going to Rip Your Face Off"
Steve Bunyan has always been somewhat of a loose cannon. He gave a very nice talk at the Oxford Union, sometime back. I enjoyed his presentation. And most inside the closed doors of the Oxford Union Debating Chamber... listened with due respect. They held their noses.... But paid due respect, still the same. -

Fire Ravages Synthetic Fibre Factory in Samut Prakan, Causing ฿20 Million in Damage
Pictures from responders. A fire broke out at a synthetic fibre factory in Bangpu Industrial Estate, Samut Prakan, early on January 2, causing damage estimated of over ฿20 million. The fire was reported to Bangpu Police Station at around 07:00. Firefighters from Bangpu Municipality and nearby areas responded with muliple fire engines. Upon arrival, they found one of the factory’s warehouses engulfed in flames, with thick black smoke billowing into the sky. Workers from nearby buildings scrambled to evacuate materials, while firefighters battled to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent warehouses. The factory, located in Soi Bangpu 73, produces synthetic fibres used in car interiors. Despite being closed for the New Year holiday, three staff members, including two technicians and a security guard, were on-site. Mr Sak, 60, the security guard, reported that the fire began in the last warehouse before spreading to others. He suspected an electrical short circuit as the cause, as no machinery was in operation. By 10:00 after deploying 32 fire engines and numerous personnel from disaster response and volunteer units, the fire was brought under control. Officials confirmed that two production lines had been destroyed, but there were no injuries or fatalities. Police General Wichit Bun Chinwutikul, Provincial Police Commander of Samut Prakan, and other officials inspected the site. The factory owner, Mr Tara, was visibly distressed, breaking into tears as this was the second fire to strike the factory in recent years. General Wichit stated that the fire had started in the fifth warehouse of the single-storey facility, which spans eight rai of land and consists of five interconnected warehouses. The fire spread to the fourth warehouse before being contained. Authorities are conducting further investigations to determine the exact cause of the blaze. Preliminary assessments attribute the fire spread to the synthetic materials stored in the warehouses, which are highly flammable. While the fire produced large plumes of smoke, officials assured that there was no immediate impact on nearby communities, including a hospital, as the smoke dissipated towards the sea. -- 2025-01-03 -

Scores of Russians Injured in Bus Crash At Pattaya Toll Booth
"Preliminary investigations suggest that the bus may have lost control due to excessive speed or abrupt maneuvers" Excessive Speed!! No kidding!! Understatement of the year 2025!! Same old, same old Thai bulls&$t driving. This goes well beyond lack of bus driver training. This ia a Thai cultural problem. After looking at the video it was very fortunate for all concern that no one got killed.- 1
