A 31-year-old man was swiftly apprehended after attempting to steal a gold necklace from a jewellery store in Huai Yot, Trang, on November 2. The thief had reportedly planned to sell the stolen necklace just 100 metres from the local police station.

The incident took place around 09:30 at Sa-at Suwan Gold Store in Lam Phura Market. Security footage captured the suspect, later identified as Mr. Wisarut, calmly entering the shop, requesting to view a 1-baht-weight gold necklace. When the employee handed him the necklace, he suddenly snatched half of it, breaking the chain and fleeing on a black and red Yamaha motorbike.

Local authorities, alerted by the store employee, promptly issued a police broadcast. Within 20 minutes, officers from Huai Yot Police Station located Mr. Wisarut driving near another gold shop, just 100 metres from the police station, where he planned to sell the necklace. Police apprehended him, recovering the necklace as evidence.

According to the store employee, Ms. Sopinya, the suspect acted suspiciously from the start, not even turning off his motorbike when he parked. After persistently asking to inspect the necklace more closely, he seized the chain and fled the scene. She quickly pressed the alarm and notified 191, leading to his rapid capture.

Mr. Wisarut confessed to the crime, claiming financial hardship and a lack of stable employment. He acted alone and without prior planning. He had previously been arrested for drug-related offenses but denied being under the influence at the time. Police tested his urine as part of the investigation, which yielded no traces of drugs. He faces charges of theft and will be processed according to the law.

Trang Police reminded local businesses to remain vigilant following the incident.
