Late last night, Wang Thonglang police, alongside the Metropolitan Police Bureau, unearthed an illegal gambling operation run by Chinese nationals in Bangkok. The raid targeted a repurposed building on Soi Sahakarn Pramoon, which had been a Chinese restaurant before it shut down during the pandemic.

Converting the space into a covert gambling hub, authorities nabbed 20 individuals of Chinese, Taiwanese, and Thai descent, including eight engrossed in gambling at the time. Police investigations revealed that the group used social media and other communication tools to discreetly arrange these gambling gatherings, frequently changing venues to evade law enforcement—a method referred to as "running casinos."

During the raid, poker games were underway, and participants reportedly admitted to their involvement in the illegal activities. Consequently, the suspects face charges for operating an unauthorized gambling den and unlawful gambling participation.

The ongoing investigation aims to identify further group members and curb similar clandestine gambling operations in the area. The building still bore its old restaurant signage but had long ceased its culinary services, serving instead as the hub for these covert activities, reported The Pattaya News.
