What is the fantastic lifestyle like as a hotel manager?

One hotel manager in Los Angeles would go out and pickup homeless women and give them free rooms.

These rooms were non-occupied anyway so there was no real loss for the hotel except cleaning time. The cleaning staff just thought it was a paying guest and had no access to the financial books.

As it turns out, the manager was requiring some rent. Nothing is free these days. He was requiring some real nasty services in exchange for the room if you know what I mean. Apparently he had multiple guests over on the same night as well and was making "rounds" all night.

The only reason the owners caught on is because other employees like security, cleaning staff and maids started noticing skint women regularly in the rooms and gossip was overheard. Some did not understand when to checkout. They reviewed CCTV and caught him bringing in people after hours without checking in.

Relatedly, I just left an upscale Yoga Retreat in Goa (Purple Valley) and the staff and managers had been there for years.

If you're a yoga person and get that gig, you only leave to go to another such place, where again, openings rarely occur. The Indian staff were also lifers.

Every two weeks, it's a different group and top teacher. Your life is yoga and waiting for Friday: Vegan Mexican Night at the buffet.

Purple Valley also has a branch in Tenerife and in the Goa off-season, they migrate there.

Mostly brits, a few South Americans. You need multiple languages.

Similarly, an eco-resort has a different set of strict requirements and the same low turnover. A lot of smart and dedicated people want to live in the jungle and are happy to take low wages. I stayed in one in S. Laos. A few whities there were working there just for meals. There'd be a line out the door to replace them if they leave.

A man I worked with was married to a woman he met in Germany when he was stationed there as a senior Non Commissioned Officer in the U.S. Coast Guard.

His wife went to Hawaii with friends for a vacation.   A relative of the wife called her from Germany and told the wife, you should go to hotel such and such, your cousin works there (might have called her before she left the mainland).

Wife found out that her cousin was the manager of a 5 star hotel.   The cousin asked where she would be staying at in Hawaii.  At a different hotel, she had already checked in.   Cousin told her, check out and come to my hotel.  You can stay in the penthouse, it isn't reserved, you can stay there free.

It was a two story penthouse that was bigger than the 4 bedroom, 2 bath house she lived in back in California!

It's nice to have a relative who is the manager of a 5 star hotel in a vacation spot!

When I was recently in Thailand I made some of my days going around Bangkok and Pattaya with my camera looking in 4&5 star hotels

I have been thinking lately I could be a great hotel manager and wondering if anyone WAS in this industry?

For anyone that WAS , how did you deal with bad guests and i was a nice lifestyle, wine women & song ?

I would love to be a hotel manager of a 5 star resort in Cambodia or Philippines

Do you have to start off in a 2 star first ?

You are not qualified to be a manager in a high-end hotel.
