Suggest A Place For Me

Featured Replies

i need to get away from koh phangan for a bit, and as i need to have a reliable high speed internet connection wherever i stay, several people have mentioned phuket as a good place for me.

can someone recommend a place to stay? i need wi-fi or LAN in-room, preferably near a nice beach. i am a solo female and would like to be close enough to some nightlife or areas where i can meet other travellers or longstayers. also needs to be easy to get around with public transport. i don't want to pay more than 800b a night if i can help it. tips?

p.s. a serviced apartment might not be bad either.

You have the Meridien Yacht Club at Nai Harn Beach with reliable high speed broadband in the room, but it's a Starwood hotel and 5 star type, not close to 800 Baht / night.

hmm, that's it eh? i thought phuket was pretty wired up!

check out the accommodation finding forum --I searched for the term: phuket , not sure how many are in your price range but its a start.

also, the phuket gazette has quite a bit of accommodation in its online classifieds section.

Beach areas like Patong, Karon & Kata have good (relatively speaking) ADSL service. Good = 1 meg, although it's more like 800 kbps, and slower when the kids get out of school and clog up the bandwith out of the island. I find the service quite reliable and 'up' most of the time. We have a total of 5 wirless routers to support our businesses in Patong & Kata, and I can't really complain about service from both TOT and Maxnet/TT&T.

Many budget guesthouse along Nani Rd in Patong have 'free' internet. For 800 baht/night you would be looking at a budget place, and certainly not a suite, based on a day/day rate.

Beaches can be a bit rough at this time of year so you might not want to have that as a consideration. Kata, Karon, Patong all have lots of what you are looking for and we are in the low season so you should be able to find a room at Baht800.- without too much trouble. Try http://www.otools-phuket.com/pub.html. Its a nice place within your budget and meets your needs.

Try here :

http://www.k-hotel.com/

I intend to stay here next time. Its two minutes from Patong beach, even less to the nightlif area- Bangla road. They have wi-fi in every room, a good restaurant with a fancy chef. Its no too dear either. You can even se the place on "youtube", just search youtube for K hotel patong.

thanks for the tips!

Hi Girlx

Please feel welcome to Pm me if you are keen on this option as the following do not make reservations over the net etc. Some of the bungalows next to our shop can receive our wifi services. They have daily serviced, A/C Rooms en suite, refrigerator, satellite TV, nice views overlooking Kata Bay. Prices presently around 600 baht per day.

30 seconds walk down to The Bounty Bar (English style pub with good thai and western food), 25 meters from the beach to the Ska Bar under the big tree and next to Pens Seafood Thai restaurant etc. Enough volunteers for a game of pool if you enjoy that sort of thing.

Plenty of surfers and divers to hang around with if you get bored.

Hope this is of some help to you.

Yes, best go to Chiang Mai. the beaches there are far more undeveloped than Phuket.

But is Chiang Mai seedier than Phuket...? :o

as a woman, i would say that chantals suggestion is the best so far girlx. ive been off the island for a few weeks and am currently in bali, so i cant comment on the weather at the moment, but kata/karon is a nice area to stay and the area is nice and cruisy. unlike the cruising that goes on in patong.

I'm completely biased, but come and stay at my hotel. Free wifi, free morlam dancing/singing courtesy of my wife and sister, Beer Lao (aaahhh), and you even get the chance to change my son's nappies....

Hi.. I would relly recommend Baan suay in Karon. Right next to the temple... Suporn and Daniel are the best hosts ever. Really it is like a 4 star hotel with 2 star prices... and it will give you what you need...

The best I know of after 11 years on the island...

Depends on whether you are a Thai or a Farang but, there is a very pleasant beach in Chiang Mai as residents will already know.
