Crime Psychiatric Patient Arrested for Fatal Stabbing
Picture courtesy of ศูนย์ข่าวทานตะวัน ขอนแก่น Facebook In a harrowing incident in Khon Kaen province, a 56-year-old psychiatric patient, identified as Sawang, was arrested following the fatal stabbing of his neighbour, Keo, in Baan Nong Chad. The attack, fuelled by personal grievances, highlights ongoing mental health challenges in the region. The Baan Fang Police Station responded swiftly to a distress call from the 191 hotline regarding a violent altercation in the Mueang subdistrict. Upon reaching the scene, officers discovered community leaders and concerned locals gathered, reporting that 68-year-old Keo had been severely injured and transported to Baan Fang Hospital. Sawang, the alleged assailant, was found nearby, armed with a knife. Police managed to disarm and detain him without further incident. A subsequent search of the area uncovered a blood-stained machete and a wooden-handled sickle, both believed to have been used in the attack. Sawang confessed to the assault, driven by anger, as he believed Keo was linked to his marital breakdown. Tragically, despite medical efforts, Keo succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, confirming the fatal outcome of the attack. Initial tests showed no drug use on Sawang’s part, but further investigation revealed a complex backdrop of untreated mental health issues. Sawang lived alone and had a documented history of psychiatric illness, with multiple treatment episodes at psychiatric facilities. Crucially, it was found that he had not been adhering to his prescribed medication regimen, a factor which possibly contributed to the tragic events. The community of Baan Nong Chad now grapples with the aftermath, as questions arise about mental health support systems and preventative measures within local communities. This incident underscores the urgent need for better mental health awareness and resources, especially in rural areas where support may be limited. Local authorities are now tasked with piecing together the exact circumstances and ensuring that incidents like this are prevented in the future. The incident has sparked discussions on improving safety nets for individuals with mental health issues, focusing on regular follow-ups and ensuring medication compliance. This tragedy serves as a sombre reminder of the critical importance of mental health care and the potential consequences when crucial care is neglected. Community solidarity and systemic improvements are necessary to prevent similar incidents, providing a safer environment for all residents. The Baan Fang district remains in mourning as they process the shocking and violent event. The loss of Keo is deeply felt, and thoughts are with his family as they navigate this difficult time. The community stands united in seeking answers and advocating for more robust mental health services to prevent future tragedies. Adapted by ASEAN Now from The Thaiger 2025-08-14 -

50 million bht to Thailand, tax implications
Who? Someone who has lots and lots of money who does not see the 50-million THB as an investment. Someone who also loves the country of Thailand and who really like the condo they plan to purchase (I assume foreign freehold condo) . Yes - if not a foreign freehold property, someone can setup a Thai company and have that company buy Thai property, but this can be shady at best and Thai politicians every now and then claim they will shut that loop hole down.- 1
