Brutal Murder in Bueng Kan: 43-Year-Old Man Found Stabbed in Rice Field

A chilling murder unfolded in Bueng Kan province on November 14 when police discovered the body of 43-year-old Krongjak Thongsamut in a rice field near a rubber plantation in Ban Non Thai Prasit, Moo 11, Chomphu Phon subdistrict. The body, found at approximately 14:10, showed clear signs of violent assault.

 

Investigators, led by Pol. Lt. Col. Worawut Ratcharee, forensic experts, and rescue teams, arrived at the scene to find Thongsamut lying lifeless near a paddy ridge. His body bore multiple injuries, including a head wound, a gash on his left cheek, a stab wound to the abdomen, and cuts on his right hand, suggesting he had tried to defend himself. Authorities believe he had been dead for about four hours when found.

 

The discovery was made by a worker at a nearby rubber plantation, identified only as Ms. Pop. She reported seeing the body while dealing with her rubber trees and immediately alerted her sister, who then contacted the police.

 

Police believe the victim may have been attacked while attempting to flee to the plantation for help, only to succumb to his injuries. Evidence found at the scene included a broken hoe handle stained with blood, a cap, and the suspect's abandoned motorcycle, all pointing toward foul play.

 

Initially, two individuals were questioned, but no significant evidence linked them to the crime. The investigation soon turned toward a third suspect, 65-year-old Supot, who owns a hut near the crime scene. Witnesses reported seeing Supot with Thongsamut the day before the murder, sharing a meal and engaging in a heated discussion about stolen property. Supot, however, had gone missing, and police suspect a motive related to a dispute over stolen items, possibly involving drugs. A manhunt was launched to locate him.

 

The search for the suspect ended when Supot was found on his return to his hut early on November 15. He was apprehended by authorities and later confessed to the brutal murder. Supot explained that years of accumulated anger led him to attack Thongsamut. After confronting him in the hut, Supot struck the victim on the head with a piece of wood and then repeatedly stabbed and slashed him with a knife, eventually leaving Thongsamut for dead in the rice field.

 

Supot revealed to police that the victim had repeatedly stolen from him, taking items like food, household goods, and even fresh bamboo shoots to exchange for drugs. Despite repeated warnings, the thefts continued, fuelling Supot's anger. The suspect admitted that he had planned the murder, and after carrying out the attack, he returned to his hut and resumed his daily activities as if nothing had happened.

 

After his confession, Supot led the police to the crime scene, where they recovered the murder weapon, a bloodstained knife with a broken tip. The weapon, which had visible traces of blood, was used to repeatedly stab and slash Thongsamut.

 

Police have formally charged Supot with premeditated murder and further investigation is underway to determine the full extent of his actions and whether the crime was in fact premeditated.

 

Authorities are continuing their search for any additional evidence as they prepare the case for prosecution.
