Can a sidecar motorbike(saleng) be legally registered?

I don't think so..

As I understand it - to be road legal, side cars have to be factory fitted (such as the Tiger Retro 110 Sidecar).

That said - it hardly makes any difference, clearly authorities turn a blind eye to these contraptions, primarily because they are generally used by poor Thai's and it just seems to be 'culturally accepted' that the poor circumvent the regulations, or rather fly under the radar.

I've seen a family of foreigners on salengs in Rayong, but I also imagine if this became more common place we'd see people fined for their use.

I thing renewing the Por-Ror-Bor (compulsory insurance and tax) of such vehicles is carried out without informing the DLT of the modification.

I'm not 100% sure IF the DLT will officially approve such side-cars - its more a case of don't ask...
