A father who had been missing for five days has sadly been found dead in a sugarcane field in Khon Kaen province. Relatives were led to his location following a dream. Police believe he died in a vehicle accident.

The case started when residents from Nong No village told the local police about a corpse found in a sugarcane field. The police, including officers Pongpichit Thanaphanpakdee and Suraphon Sinpheng, arrived at the location on the evening of November 20 to examine the scene.

There, they found a Ford pickup truck in the field, away from the road. The windows of the vehicle were open, and the driver's door was slightly open. The truck had a mat, bananas, and an icebox in the back, and the keys were in the ignition, with the gear set to reverse. There were no signs of a struggle.

Near the truck, the police found the dead body of 68-year-old Nu Pen. His body was decomposed and had a strong smell. His right leg was stuck under the front wheel, while his left leg was resting on the car door's bottom edge.

The police asked locals to help move the truck using a tractor. This allowed a local group to take away the body. Early examinations suggested that Nu Pen had been dead for about five days. It's believed that he was trying to reverse the truck in the dark, the truck went off the road and when trying to lift the vehicle using a jack, it slipped and trapped him.

Nu Pen's wife, 62-year-old Buengliang along with their daughter, son-in-law and other relatives visited the scene. Buengliang remembered that her husband sold fresh vegetables at the local market. On November 15, he delivered some lemongrass to her at the market and said he was going to pick more for future sales and visit their daughter in the fields.

When he didn't return that evening, Buengliang thought he might be with their daughter. But when she hadn't heard from him by the next morning, she started to worry and started asking friends and relatives if they'd seen him. Their attempts to reach him by phone were unsuccessful, adding to their worry.

The family called a fortune teller for some advice, who suggested that Nu Pen might be in the sugarcane fields. Even with this clue, they couldn't find him. It wasn't until a relative dreamt about him that they searched the location where he often picked vegetables, which led them to discover his body.

The deceased man’s daughter, 45-year-old Rita, noted her father was seen asking for a fertilizer bag for his lemongrass before he vanished. Despite extensive searches and posts on social media, they received no leads.

Rita suspected that because her father was a peaceful man, the incident was probably an accident. They found his phone in the truck, which calmed their fears of foul play. They are now focused on arranging his funeral.
