Here. I'll practice my access to free speech by saying that (if she is that awful woman) she got what she deserved!

Incorrect.  Her post implied that she was indifferent to whether or not the building was set on fire - it is not a crime to be indifferent to a bad thing happening.  Her charges were inflated and she should not be in jail.  Even if she had said what your echo chamber claimed she had said, it would still be impossible for a court to prove a causal link between what she said and whether that caused people to start fires, or even if those convicted of starting fires had even seen her post.  But that isn't what she said, so is irrelevant.

People who set fires to buildings and/or attacked police officers in an airport, or set fire to buses in the previous riots (the Roma ones) should all be in jail.   People who posted offensive tweets, even if you didn't like them, should not be in jail.

If she was so "indifferent" to the situation, why did she apologise for what she posted?

The only thing her post implied was carry on with the violence and if people die, I don't care.

Pull the other one.

The Decline of Free Speech: How the UK Became a Third-Class Nation

"Third-Class Nation" is inaccurate.  More accurate is an "Orwellian Totalitarian State."
There seems to be a massive push in Western countries to embrace totalitarian restrictions on speech, as well as dissent.  It bodes not well for the West.  It's the same thing that the West accuses all the countries they have declared to be "enemies" of engaging in, like China.  I expect it in China, I don't expect it in countries that claim to be "Liberal Democracies."  Nowadays "Liberal Democracy" equals "Totalitarianism" and even Classic Fascism.  Welcome to 1984 on the Thames.

The Democrats and Far-Left Progressives were trying to take the US down that path, but just ran into a wall emblazoned with MAGA, Trump, and the US Constitution and Bill or Rights, and POTUS Number 47.  We're not going down that path just yet.
Sucks to be in Western countries outside of the US though.

More MAGA B.S. from you... 😀

So she shouldn't have apologised for an offensive tweet?  I don't understand you people at all.   Why wouldn't she apologise if she felt bad for offending people for what she wrote in the aftermath of 3 little girls getting slaughtered in a dance class by a Muslim attacker?   Maybe you don't care so much if 3 innocent little girls are butchered but this kind of thing has a big impact on people and they can do and say things they later regret.  So she apologised.

What shouldn't have happened is going to jail for a very first offence for an offensive tweet in her first ever encounter with the law.  Had she been a more hardened criminal that knew the system even a little bit she would not have pleaded guilty and a jury would not have convicted her.

The role of the press as the Fourth Estate is indispensable in holding power to account. The exposure of the MPs’ expenses scandal by *The Telegraph* is a prime example of this. Although the scandal was a painful chapter for Parliament, it led to improved accountability

No. It just led to MPs being more careful how they fiddled their expenses. Yet now those thieving bar stewards want to put their magnifying glass on whether pensioners are on the fiddle. Hypocrits.

But hey , we still have our freedom of speech. Just that freedom can no longer be guaranteed after speech.

Maybe you understand people like Lucy Connolly better?

Hopefully, the short jail sentence is just the slap up the side of the head she so obviously needed.

If I say the same phrase to someone in the UK, then I'll be investigated as uttering a hate crime..... I believe it's the same if someone is bald!

What have been the punishments for saying a fat person is fat?

Do you have links to actual cases?

Or is this all nonsense?

No... because you do say what you want a lot of the time. It does not mean you can say anything you want on a public platform - there are limits.

You still colour within the lines, and as much as many of us may disagree with your content.. its still your freedom to write what you wish (within reason).

One of the reasons I haven't blocked you, even though I disagree with so much of your content is that its still a different perspective - I don't want to live within an echo-chamber of people who only agree - different perspectives are healthy (even yours !!!).

But the developing limitations towards the 'freedom of speech' in the UK is taking on measures I would start to consider frightening, an abuse of power of an Orwellian nature .

The 'Free Palestine' Movement has been able to shut down central London numerous times...

The 20% Farmers Inheritance tax were permitted 2 Tractors into central London to protest..

'One lot' do nothing to threaten the power dynamics in Westminster.

The 'other log' have the potential to bring down the government with enough support.

I'm frightened for my farmer friends who may post online.... Instead we are seeing a 'narrative' on shows such as LBC - James O'Brien...    telling farmers just 'sell a bit of your land to pay tax'...   and arguing that 'Farmers travelled to London in 1st Class'... (of course they did - non-premium time tickets: £30 regular (no seat guaranteed) - £45 First Class (food and drink included !!) - No brainer... That doesn't mean they are rich - it means they were capable of planning...

.... But, argue against that and they are shot down by woke 'soundbites' which the government love...

Start posting facts... and they get 'visited' by the Police...

... No... while it seems paranoid to suggest it - the UK is losing its freedom of speech..  Part of that is for wholly valid reasons...   to cut out hate speech, religiously motivated speech and to cut out the spread of false naratives - but that last one is a major issue -  who decides what a false narative is ?

....think Covid Vaccines / Global Warming etc - Facebook shuts down posts from people I know are posting facts... but the facts they have do not fit the government agreed narative...

... I'm not a renegade - I just like to be able to read the facts and decide myself.

But equally so... I dont want to read stuff that is so obviously fake and designed to mislead us.

I say what I want and have never been arrested.

There has been a lot of whining about foreigners in the UK lately, a lot of hate directed towards them.

I prefer to be polite to them.

I believe people should be able to go wherever they want in the world. I chose to live in Thailand, my life, my choice. If people want to go to live in cold and miserable England, then good luck to them.

No idea, but as long ago as 2012, MPs wanted to make it illegal to call someone fat....

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2151939/Calling-fat-hate-crime.html

In any case, even if you write in Thailand that someone is fat, I think it highly unlikely that a case of defamation would be brought against you because - quite simply - being called fat when you ARE fat is not seen as an insult in Thailand. Think how many fat people are given the nickname 'moo' (pig).

Unfortunately, in the UK (and no doubt other countries), the culture of that country means that being told the truth is deemed to be an insult..

Eg - If I call Starmer a two-faced, vile d*ckhead, I might suffer some police action in the UK against me, because some don't like to acknowledge the truth.....

Farmer Harmer Starmer hates free speech.

Just pay your taxes and shut up. Or jail awaits (but only if you're white working class of course).

So she didn’t say it.

She wrote in on Facebook.

Have you got an example of someone being jailed for saying something?

It is probably a "cycle lane" now!

You have no idea how near the truth your remark is. If Citizen Khan London's  illustrious ( in his mind) mayor had his way all roads would become cycle lanes. Park Lane has already been reduced to one lane of traffic since he put in a cycle lane and a bus lane.

Great to hear the trans aren't bothering you in the kids changing rooms.

Rachel (from accounts) Reeves will ensure that Britain descends to third world status while 2 tier Keir sets about free speech and Lammy destroys our relationship with the US.

Connolly's tweet with expletives deleted is shown below. You think that freedom of speech should extend to allowing the second phrase I e. " set fire ... I care" of that sentence?

"Mass deportation now, set fire to all the f****** hotels full of the b******* for all I care... "

Yet Ricky Jones walks among us despite publicly urging people to slit the throats of political opponents.

2 tier justice is never a good look Ray. You should stop gaslighting and just admit it.

There should be a lot of hate about illegal immigrants costing 8 million a day putting a great strain on health services, housing and infrastructure. UK cannot keep on taking in up to a million a year, it's sustainable and for the past 20 years voters have said they wanted less immigration, and it was always promised!

There is a recent study which I will link to tomorrow that shows it is now quicker to walk between certain landmarks in London than it is to use "Public" transport!

PS;  I have found the link!

Waiting for a bus in London? You might as well walk! It is now quicker to be a pedestrian than catch a bus in the capital because of cycle lanes and LTNs, says new report | Daily Mail Online

Many of London's landmarks are very close to each other , within a few minutes walk .

Two minutes to walk or wait for a bus for ten minutes

You cannot have even read the first paragraph of the article before making that asinine comment!

Of course many London Landmarks  are so close together that walking is quicker like Nelson's monument and Charing Cross!

For non Brits just cross the road, they are that close!

Talking about immigrants doesn't count as free speech.  You are reciting what the media told you.  The media is own by the ruling party.

The average flag painted-faced Brit has the intellect of a gnat so this stuff has to be broken down:

All media owned by government

You recite same word of government

No not free speech.  You are a puppet.

There's really not enough room on Londons streets for people to drive cars , you cam spend more time waiting at traffic lights than moving

Correct and that is only one person, there have many others, like a guy shouting at police dog that received a prison sentence!

It has got completely out of hand and the fact they are releasing actual criminals to make room for more of these 'social warriors' is just rubbing salt into the wound!

Didn't someone get arrested for calling a police horse gay?
