All of it purchased by me. My wife had 4 kids before I met her. I paid 50,000 baht to her wonderful parents on the wedding day. This money just basically paid for the wedding. As you may have guessed, the family is dirt poor.

My wife's parents both passed in the last 3 years, both at 70. We miss them very much.

My wife's invalid, wheelchair bound, 50 year old sister and her 16 year old son, my wife's 24 year old son, 21 year old daughter, fiancée & grandson and 17 year old son all live with us. It takes all of us to run the farm that we started from scratch. One day it will be theirs.

 

My advice to you young man, is to take your time. There is no need to marry so quickly, you have barely started living. It sounds like this could be your first love, which is easy to do over here.

If she loves you, she will wait. As noted above, you do not just marry her, you marry the whole family. Trust me, you need lots of money. At 22 and recently graduated, I'm sure that's not the case with you unless your folks are prepared to pony up to your every whim.

 

Get a grip, do your research on relationships in Thailand, THERE IS NO RUSH.

Actually it's kind of normal these days to do this. We did it too (15yrs ago) as did several of my friends. Now, 25 years ago not so much, back then I had a few friends pay a decent amount.

Here is some more background information:

 

Background:
I'm a 22-year-old U.S. student graduating in Summer 2025, planning to live several months a year in Asia.
From January to May 2025, I’ll stay in Asia to study, then return in June for exams (on a tourist visa, staying in Thailand for 90 days).

Afterwards, I’ll work in the US. but visit Asia several months a year. When I’m older (late 20s), I plan to live in Asia more permanently.

 

I met her in February 2024. That summer, I stayed in her home while taking online classes, paying only the power bill (4,000 baht/month). I got sex daily, and she became pregnant, but we lost the baby in September.

This winter, we discussed me staying with her for several months, getting her pregnant, and giving a 100,000 baht Sin Sod.

 

Money:

I'm not a too naive farang though. I've been giving as as little as possible: less than 10,000 baht directly over nine months.
She earns 10,000–15,000 baht/month as a hospital or teacher’s assistant.
She hasn’t asked me to support her kids, but I assume the little money I’ve given goes toward them.
In 5–10 years, I see myself working in financial services in the US or Asia, or possibly as a remote digital nomad in data science. The former is more likely because remote jobs are hard to get.

 

Concerns:
I’m worried she views me as an ATM due to the high Sin Sod demand and fights about money, though she was very kind while pregnant.

 

Justification:
It’s cheaper to have a family in Thailand, and $3,000 is much less than U.S. costs. However, it’s still a lot for me, and I’m concerned she might restrict access to my kids if I don’t provide more money down the line.

 

She’s okay with no US visa.

 

So far I plan to negotiate the Sin Sod down or pay over time.

I’ll fully support my child but not much more, but I won’t be present half the year.

I won’t need to buy a house or car like her ex—he already bought items my child can use.

You also seem to think that her other child from a different man will not be your responsibility in raising. You will learn in time that is an incorrect assumption and you will end up supporting her and all the kids. Especially if there is a Thai father. He will not support the kid long after she remarries or marries you.

 You are only 22... and seems that you are not thinking too much about future possibilities simply because she had your kid along with another mans child. 

Your life is just starting out. Be careful the choices you make. I would hate to see your life ruined and future poverty and misery caused by such a marriage. 

 

I will tell her she is tainted and negotiate down from 100k is too much. I agree she may stop me from visiting and not let me live in her home unless I give more in the future.

But is it not a fair deal to get a kid from her from 3k or less without having to pay for wedding gold car house etc?

Yes as a foreigner I carry additional risk of being able to run away and impregnate other girls. (I do plan to impregnate more girls).
But I will pay 100% of expenses for my child and make sure she's not trying to keep some of it for herself or other guys kids.
I plan to stay the next few months then only a month or so a year.
