A 57-year-old truck owner lost his life in an incident on November 26, when the dump bed of his six- wheel truck fell and crushed him while he was repairing a hydraulic hose. The incident occurred at a residence in Moo 4, Ban Sok Pho, Bueng Khong Long Subdistrict, Bueng Khong Long District, Bueng Kan Province.

Police Captain Pongdet Kumkong, an investigator from Bueng Khong Long Police Station, was notified of the accident and coordinated with doctors from Bueng Khong Long Hospital and local rescue teams to investigate the scene.

The accident took place in a truck parking shed where a white Isuzu six-wheel dump truck, license plate registered in Bueng Kan, was parked.

Neighbours gathered around, trying to find ways to assist the victim, but it was too late. The truck's dump bed had crushed the man, leaving a pool of blood on the ground. The deceased was identified as Mr. Preecha, 57, his upper body and head were pinned under the dump bed in a bent-over position, with blood streaming across the ground.

Family members sought help from neighbours, who used an excavator to lift the dump bed. It took approximately 10 minutes to retrieve the victim's body. An examination revealed severe injuries, including a fractured skull at the back of his head and a deep indentation on the left side of his face, likely caused by metal piercing his skin.

Mr. Kanong, 33, an employee hired to drive the deceased's truck for soil transport, recounted the events. He explained that they had been working as usual when the truck's hydraulic system malfunctioned. Upon inspecting the vehicle, the deceased discovered a leak in the hydraulic cylinder and a broken hose. He decided to replace the hose.

While loosening the bolts, hydraulic oil suddenly gushed out, causing the dump bed to collapse rapidly and crush him.

Authorities believe the victim forgot to secure the dump bed with a support beam or other safety measures, leading to the fatal incident.

How many of these incidents are there....I see workers under a raised truck bin and have never seen any of the using an emergency prop in case of failure.

Many countries have these as standard on tip trucks now.....but not Thailand...that would add $10 bucks to the vehicle price!

Well, if you do not understand safety, as most thais don't,  this is what happens... sadly no-one will learn from this avoidable, but foreseeable,  "accident."
